Nearly a year after a Gwinnett County girl died of starvation, another mother is now charged with starving her 15-year-old special needs daughter.
Jade Jacobs has been charged with child cruelty and false imprisonment after taking her daughter to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite weighing just 60 pounds.
Besides bruises and cuts to her face and lips, doctors also found pressure points on her knees and buttocks due to being restrained or confined to a small area.
Gwinnett Police Cpl. Ed Ritter tells WSB’s Sandra Parrish, when investigators went to the home on La Mesa Drive in Lawrenceville, they found a small closet where it appears the girl had been held.
“There was a tile floor with a small two-by-two foot mat along with some clothes that were stained with feces and urine,” he says. “There were actually feces on the floor and the entire room smelled of feces and urine.”
According to the police report, Jacobs told the hospital her daughter had gotten into an altercation with her sister and then began eating feces. She told the staff that she “could not do it anymore” and brought her to the hospital.
The report says the mother has a feeding plan for the girl, but claims she would not eat. Ritter says hospital staff found otherwise.
“When they started feeding her some food… she was looking for more food,” he says.
Ritter says police are also seeking the girl’s step-father, William Brown, who faces the same charges.
Three other children, two belonging to Jacobs and one to Brown, have been removed from the home.
Jacobs faced child abuse and assault charges 14 years ago in Baltimore related to bathing a baby in hot water. She was found guilty of reckless child endangerment.
The case comes nearly a year after 10-year-old Emani Moss died weighing just 30 pounds. Her father and step-mother, Emon and Tiffany Moss, face the death penalty.
