GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police arrested a mother after they said they found her three children living in deplorable conditions at a home in Gwinnett County.
According to police, a case worker for the Division of Family and Children Services was on scene at the residence on Harbins Road, conducting a welfare check of the house for the three children, ages 8, 4, and 3.
According to a police report, the officer noticed the house was in disarray upon walking inside. He said clothes were spread out across the main entrance doorway. There were holes in the wall, rat feces inside the bottom of the refrigerator, and rat and bug feces throughout the residence.
When asked why the house was such a mess, police said Natasha Humphrey said it was not messy and that she only missed a few days of cleaning.
Police asked her to show them where the children slept. There, they found nails and scissors within close proximity to where to children slept.
Also, there was a small hole in a window and a large bird’s nest on the top of the drawer in the bedroom.
In the bathroom, officers found conditions they called “completely unsanitary.”
This included dead bugs and a mess that made it impossible to see the bathroom floor.
Humphrey was detained and taken to the county jail.
It was then discovered that one of her children had lice, the police report said.
