Police: Texas boy choked for drinking chocolate milk

HOUSTON (AP) - A Houston woman is being accused of choking her 6-year-old son after she caught him drinking chocolate milk without permission.

Ruth Vasquez Rodriguez-Martinez remained jailed Tuesday after being charged with injury to a child and abandoning a child.

Authorities allege when Rodriguez-Martinez found out her son had drunk the milk in their home July 15, she strangled the boy and threw him in a closet, where he hit his head on a wall.

According to a criminal complaint, Rodriguez-Martinez saw blood on her son's forehead but chose not to seek medical help because "she did not want (Child Protective Services) in her life."

Authorities also allege Rodriguez-Martinez left the boy and his three siblings unattended on Sept. 12.

Court records did not list an attorney for the 23-year-old mother.
