Nicole Breault-Pequeno
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- A woman is facing child abuse charges for allegedly biting and kicking her young daughters on multiple occasions.
Nicole Breault-Pequeno, 30, was arrested on Monday.
The investigation began just after midnight on Sept. 15 when police were called for a disturbance at an apartment complex at Hayden and Indian School roads.
According to court documents, officers found Breault-Pequeno was intoxicated and she was knocking on different apartment doors. She was crying and yelling for her daughter to let her inside.
Police determined that she left her 6-year-old and 10-year-old daughters alone the night before.
She was arrested on charges of child neglect and cocaine possession charges at that time.
The children were turned over to the Arizona Department of Child Safety. The agency placed the girls with their paternal grandmother in Tucson.
The grandmother took the children to a doctor who discovered numerous bruises on both children. The 10-year-old girl had a bite mark on her right leg and left arm.
The girls told investigators during a forensic interview that their mother caused the injuries.
The younger daughter drew a picture to show a violent incident and said her mother pulled her hair, caused her to hit her head on an ironing board, kicked her in the back and choked her until she couldn't breathe.
The older daughter said her mother hit her because she was mad that her father did not come home. Breault-Pequeno told her daughter to call her father and every time he did not answer the phone she would slap the girl on her arms and legs.
Court documents state that there were three previous reports going back to 2009 with Child Protective Services (now Arizona Department of Child Safety) involving Breault-Pequeno and her children.
The older daughter had told a school official that her mother bit her on the cheek. The mother admitted to biting the child but said it happened while they were playing and the mother was pretending that she was going to "eat her up."
No charges were filed in that incident.
Breault-Pequeno denied abusing her children when she was interviewed by police this week.
She is being held on a $15,000 bond.
