18-year-old Collin Specht has been missing since late Saturday afternoon.
Collin Specht, who has Asperger’s Syndrome,
had apparently told his parents in the past about wanting to go to
Florida. The short report from Mandeville Police Sunday night said only
that the young man had been found safe and that his parents had picked
him up in Mobile. Specht’s
parents said he had been seen walking around 5 p.m. in Mandeville along
the North Causeway Blvd. service road. He was wearing khaki shorts, a
red shirt and was carrying a dark green duffle bag. According to the National Institute of Health, “Asperger's syndrome
(AS) is an autism spectrum disorder. It is milder than autism but
shares some of its symptoms. It is more common in boys than girls. An
obsessive interest in a single subject is a major symptom of AS.”
