Re: FAITH ALANIZ - 2 yo - Cathedral City CA
A miscommunication between parents prompted a valleywide police search Tuesday for a 2-year-old Cathedral City girl.
The search was called off about 11:30 a.m. when the girl's frantic father
found out he had a phone message from the mother saying she had the
toddler.Raul Alaniz reported his daughter, Faith, missing about 3 a.m. when he woke
up and couldn't find her. The deadbolt to the door was unlocked.“I got scared and called the police,” he said.Officers who responded to the girl's home in the 67000 block of Tamara Road
about 3:45 a.m. learned that Faith's 5-year-old sister saw her mom come
home late with a female friend, according to Cathedral City police. The
5-year-old told officers that Faith left with her mother, Monica Gray.Reverse
911 calls went out across the valley alerting residents about the
little girl. Palm Springs Mounted Search and Rescue team members
scoured the Whitewater Wash north of Vista Chino. A California Highway
Patrol plane circled above.Officers across the valley checked hotel rooms and community service volunteers walked door-to-door.“Without
being able to prove one way or another she's not with her mom, we have
to pull out all the resources,” Cathedral City police Lt. Glen Haas
said during the search.Alaniz
said he noticed he had messages on his cell phone and that he had been
trying to listen to them all morning, but either kept getting
interrupted or was unable to get reception. When
he finally was able to retrieve his messages — there were about 10, he
said — one of those was from Gray telling Alaniz that she picked up her
daughter.“She never does leave a message and sure enough, it was the last one,” he said. The parents will not be fined for the search, Haas said. The mother and child were found unharmed about 4 p.m., he said. There were no custody issues between the parents.
