Re: KAYLA BERG - 15 yo (2009)- Wausau WI
The parents of a missing Antigo teen put out a desperate plea for
their daughter's safe return. Kayla Berg,15, was last seen in Wausau
ten days ago. Her friends, family and police in both cities say they have no idea where she. Kayla's
parents describe her as an outgoing, chatty, fun loving kid, who loves
gymnastics. After ten days and no word from her, they're hoping for the
best, but fearing the worst. Hope Sprenger, Kayla's mom says,
"It just doesn't make any sense for her at all. She's always kept in
touch and it just scares me because I really feel that something has
happened." Antigo police say the teen traveled to Wausau to see friends and last seen here, at a home, near Colonial Manor August 11th. Kayla's
parents are divorced and didn't double check with each other on where
their daughter was and that lead to a 6-day delay in her being reported
missing. Eric Roller "We're looking at ten days and I guess the
biggest concern is we haven't been able to confirm that she's had any
contact with any of her friends that she's had in this area. That's our
biggest concern." Concerns that no one knows where Kayla is, but police can find no signs that she's in trouble. Still,
the Chief hopes she may be with friends and is unaware that her family
is looking for her. But, Kayla's mother contends that her daughter
always checks in whether it's with her or friends. Sprenger
says, "She left here with nothing. Just the clothes on her back and
purse, no money. And if she was going to go somewhere, she's the kind
of person who needs clean clothes, her hair's got to be perfect,
makeup's got to be perfect. So, it's just not like her to not come back
or call anybody." A week from Saturday is Kayla's Sweet Sixteen.
With a big birthday and the start of school just around the corner, her
parents are looking for any information that anyone has that will lead
to their daughter. Sprenger says, "I just want, if anyone sees her to please let someone know. I need to know she's okay. I need her back home." Anyone with any information is asked to call the Langlade County Sheriff's Department at 715-627-6411

Re: KAYLA BERG - 15 yo (2009)- Wausau WI
Police officials in Antigo
say they're continuing to work with other law enforcement agencies, in
their attempt to locate a missing teen.
The mother of 15-year-old Kayla May Berg, tells us her daughter was last
seen being dropped off at a friends hous in Wausau, near the Colonial
Manor Nursing Home.
The mother of Kayla Berg says her family continues to become more worried as every hour passes.
And now, Hope Sprenger says it really seems as if her daughter has simply vanished.
Kayla's father saw his daughter leave his Antigo home back on August 11th, but
because of confusion with who their daughter was with, Kayla wasn't
reported missing to police for a few days later.
And because of the length of time the teen has been missing, the family
says police are ratcheting up their efford to locate the girl.
Kayla Berg's mother Hope Sprenger says, "Theyre checking every lead they get
whether its hearsay or somebody said they seen her, I heard that
they're running everything they're really working non-stop."
The Antigo Police Chief tells us they are currently working with the
Marathon County Sheriff's Department, and speaking to both family and
friends in their attempt to locate Kayla.
The girl's mother describes her daughter as about 5'2, nearly 110 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
If you have any information about Kayla, or if you've seen her, call your local police.

Candle light vigil for the birthday of amissing Antigo teen
Kayla Berg turned 16 years old this weekend
It's been almost 3 weeks since Kayla Berg was last seen in the Wausau area. Kayla turned 16 Saturday, and friends and family gathered at a special candle light vigil in her honor.
Through the somber glow of candles, dozens of faces could be seen praying for the safe return of their friend and daughter.
"It's terrible," said Kayla's mother Hope Sprenger. "It's horrifying. It's the worst feeling in the world. I just want her back."
Kayla Berg turned 16 years old on Saturday. And friends and family came together at her high school in Antigo to celebrate the milestone, and also pray for her safety.
"I just want Kayla to be in everyone's prayers and to find a way safe way back home," her mother said.
The group sang some of Kayla's favorite songs and shared memories from times spent with Kayla.
"I remember her hyperness," said Kayla's friend Megan Jaje. "No matter what, she was always jumping down the hallways happy. There's nothing that could bring her down usually."
The family has a Sweet 16 birthday cake, but they say it won't be cut until Kayla comes home to have the first piece.
If you have any information on the whereabouts of Kayla Berg, please call the Langlade County Sheriff's Department at 715-627-6411

Re: KAYLA BERG - 15 yo (2009)- Wausau WI
It's been nearly a month since a 16-year-old Antigo teen went missing in Wausau.
Now police aren't sure whether she was abducted or if she's just hiding out.
Kayla's
mom Hope Sprenger says, "Kayla if you can hear this, please just call
me, you're not in trouble. Just call mom. I need to know."
Even
though 16-year-old Kayla Berg has been missing for nearly a month, her
mother isn't giving up hope. And neither are the Antigo Police.
Chief
Eric Roller says, "We're following up on everything we can. A lot of it
has been "she's been here or there, been sighted here, maybe here".
The
problem is, they haven't been able to confirm any of those tips. The
man who saw Kayla last dropped her off at this abandoned home. He says
he never saw her go in. The person she was meeting says he wasn't here.
Roller says, "To this day that's all we really do know."
Based on interviews, the stories just aren't matching up. That's why police believe Kayla may be hiding with friends.
Roller
says, "We do feel that there is some deception there and they may know
more about it. Again, it's nothing concrete but it is a lead that we
want to go on."
But Sprenger isn't so sure, "I can't
believe that they would lie. They've seen what I've gone through, what
I'm going through... I can't see her doing this. It's completely not in
her nature."
But police say if Kayla is hiding, it's the best case scenario at this point.
Roller
says, "That's what we're hoping for. I mean we're just hoping that
she's going to come back, she's safe and her friends knew."
You
may remember we told you that police received a tip from a person
saying they thought they saw Kayla get into a truck at the Wal-Mart in
Antigo.
The driver of that truck was interviewed and cleared. If you have any information about Kayla, call local law enforcement.

Re: KAYLA BERG - 15 yo (2009)- Wausau WI
The community of Antigo is coming together in hopes that they can help bring one of their own home.
Sunday Kayla Berg's family held a fundraiser to help raise money for the
search effort to bring her home. Organizers say raffles, drawings, and
even live music were all ways to help bring in a little more money for
their cause.
16 year old Kayla Berg was last seen more than month ago near Colonial
Manor in Wausau. Officials say they're still unsure whether she has
been abducted or ran away, but for Berg's family the situation is
heartbreaking all the same.
Kayla's older brother James Berg says he's constantly worried he's going to get a phone call from his mom giving him bad news.
"My biggest fear is being waken up and finding out my sister's been kidnapped and is being tortured."
While Berg's family remains distraught, they say the strong support of the
community is helping them keep moving forward to help find Kayla.
The missing teen's mom, Hope Sprenger, says she really appreciates all the supports she's been given.
"Everybody that has come and donated and helped me and just been there and given their concerns, it means so much."
If you would like to help support Kayla Berg and her family, a fund is set
up at the Antigo CoVantage Credit Union to assist the search efforts.
If you or someone you know has any information on the missing teen, you
can contact the Langlade County Sheriff's Department at (715) 627-641.
She's described as being five-feet-two inches tall, about 110 pounds, with brown hair and eyes.

Mother sure missing daughter abducted; cops skeptical
The mother of an Antigo teen missing since Aug. 11 says she thinks her daughter was abducted, though police continue to investigate the disappearance as a runaway case.
Kayla Berg, 16, was dropped off during the evening hours of Aug. 11 by a friend at a vacant home near Colonial Manor, 1010 E. Wausau Ave., where she planned to meet another friend, according to Berg's mother, Hope Sprenger. Kayla has not been heard from since.
Sprenger said her daughter had never run away before and it is unusual that Berg has not checked in with her family.
"I do not believe she ran away," Sprenger said. "It's not in her nature to do this at all."
Wausau Police Detective Kay Hanson said investigators in Wausau and Antigo have questioned Kayla's friends and family and followed tips in the weeks since her disappearance. Those interviews led police to conclude that it is more likely that Kayla ran away than that she was abducted, Hanson said.
"We don't have a witness and there is no evidence pointing toward or suggesting that she was taken against her will," Hanson said. Kayla willingly went to the home with a male friend and he has been cleared in the case, Hanson said.
Many times runaways will decide to return home within several days or weeks, Hanson said. In other cases the runaway or a person he or she is with is caught committing a crime and is located that way, she said.
Sprenger said she and others have hung missing person posters throughout central and northern Wisconsin to develop new tips. Despite media attention, advertisements and the offer of reward money, police say they have received few leads during the past two weeks.
"My only motivation that gets me up every morning is Kayla herself and the hope that she gets home OK," Sprenger said.
Lifelong Wausau resident and local dentist John Krasowski said he was heartbroken when he heard about Berg's disappearance. Krasowski has been running an advertisement the past few weeks in the Wausau Daily Herald asking people with information to come forward with information.
"If it were my daughter, God forbid, it's the least you can do," Krasowski said about the advertisement. "It is what you hope someone else would do for you if you're in that situation."

Kayla's Mom from a News Blog post:
Thank you to everyone who is giving their support right now. I am the
mother of Kayla Berg. Please go to her website at
www.kaylaberg.tumblr.com to see more pictures of her. The response from
people who I've never met has been overwhelming and very heart warming.
This experience has changed me in many ways. I will never take anything
for granted EVER again. Thank you very much to the Dentist John
Krasowski for running the ads in the Wausau Daily Herald. This is very
unexpected and also very heart warming. Thank you so much! Both the
Antigo and Wausau police department have assured me they are doing
their very best. I'm limited on what I can say at this point. I know
all leads are being investigated but as far as I've been told there has
been nothing "solid" and no confirmed sightings of my daughter. I can
say without a doubt I DO NOT BELIEVE MY DAUGHTER RAN AWAY. There is
nothing to prove she did or did not run away.

A 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with the disappearance of Antigo teen Kayla Berg.
According to the Antigo Police Department, Kevin Kielcheski is charged with second degree reckless endangerment.
Kielcheski smoked marijuana with Berg and then dropped her off in
Wausau the night she disappeared, which Antigo police say contributed
to her disappearance.
Kielscheski is currently in jail, but could be released on a 75-hundred dollar cash bond.
He's due back in court early next month.
Sixteen-year-old Kayla Berg has been missing for over 2 months.
If you have any information on her whereabouts call (715) 627-NAIL.

Re: KAYLA BERG - 15 yo (2009)- Wausau WI
Police in Langlade County have arrested the man who last saw an
Antigo teen before she disappeared more than two months ago in Wausau.
Kayla Berg, 16, was dropped off during the evening hours of Aug. 11 by her
friend, Kevin J. Kielcheski, 24, of Deerbrook at a vacant home near
Colonial Manor, 1010 E. Wausau Ave., where she planned to meet another
friend, according to police.Kielcheski said Berg called
and asked him to pick her up at her father’s Antigo home and drive her
to Wausau, according to a criminal complaint. Kielcheski told police
that the two smoked marijuana in the vehicle before he dropped Berg off
and drove away. Berg has not been seen since.Langlade
County District Attorney Ralph Uttke said the charges were filed
because Kielcheski admitted dropping off a young girl knowing she was
under the influence of a controlled substance. He said the
investigation into Berg’s disappearance is ongoing.Kielcheski
made an initial appearance Monday in Langlade County Circuit Court
where he was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment. Judge
Fred Kawalski ordered Kielcheski to not consume alcohol or have contact
with juvenile females. Kielcheski remains in the Langlade County Jail this morning on a $7,500 cash bond. His next court appearance is Nov. 2.

Police believe 24-year-old Kevin Kielcheski was the
last person to see 15-year-old Kayla Berg before she went missing over
two months ago. Now he's facing felony charges. Kielcheski is accused of second degree reckless endangerment because of his actions the night Kayla disappeared. Kayla's mom Hope Sprenger says, "It was difficult to take in. I can't really say how I felt. It's difficult." Difficult, because Kevin Kielcheski was friends with both Kayla and her older brother. Sprenger says, "Good kid, he stayed at our house a number of times." Sprenger
is upset, but not shocked, that Kielcheski told police he and Kayla
were smoking marijuana before he dropped her off at this house, not
watching to make sure the stoned teen got in safely. Sprenger
says, "I had some inclination. Kids are going to be kids, they're going
to experiment. But I'm not happy with that whole situation." Police
say they always knew they'd arrest Kielcheski for endangering Kayla's
safety, but decided to do it now because their leads aren't panning out
and new information is dwindling. Antigo Police Chief Eric
Roller says, "We're hoping with the arrest at this point people will
realize she's still out there, she's still missing, we're still doing
everything we can and maybe we can get some tips." The chief
says his department is actively searching for Kayla, but he never
imagined she'd still be missing after more than two months. "This
family is going through all they are and we just can't come up with
anything that can help them out and that's frustrating," Roller says. On
dealing with the whole situation, Sprenger says, "I don't know how I
keep making it through every day, I really don't... She's my
motivation. I guess, that's the only thing that keeps me going." Police don't plan on charging Kielcheski with any other crimes. But if convicted of reckless endangerment, he could face up to 10 years in prison. Since Kayla is still missing, anyone with information is asked to call the Antigo Police Department at 715-627-9411. Sprenger would also like to thank all of the people who have helped with Kayla's search.

Suspect in missing Antigo girl's case freed from jail
ANTIGO, Wis. (WSAU) – A man accused of endangering the safety of a missing Antigo girl has been freed from jail.
A Langlade County judge lowered Kevin Kielcheski’s bond from $7,500 to $2,500 today. The 24-year-old Kielcheski must remain sober and cannot have any contact with young women he’s not related to.
Kielcheski must also cooperate with police as they continue to search for 16-year-old Kayla Berg.
Prosecutors charged the Deerbrook man this week with recklessly endangering Berg’s safety in August after he admitted using drugs with her and giving her a ride to a home in Wausau. Berg has not been since August 11th.
Kielcheski also waived his right to a preliminary hearing. A status update in his case is set for November 25th.

Poster's note: The AMW article/synopsis of the case follows this local newspaper article
'Most Wanted' joins hunt for Antigo teen Dec. 23, 2009
“America’s
Most Wanted,” an Internet site that has been credited for finding
thousands of missing children, has put Antigo’s Kayla May Berg at the
lead of its website.
Berg was 15 on Aug. 11 when she rode with an Antigo man to Wausau and
was dropped off outside the home of a former boyfriend. And from that
point, she vanished.
The “Most Wanted” site explains that she had been with Kevin
Kielcheski, 24, for part of the afternoon on Aug. 11, and he gave her
the ride to the Wausau home before returning to Antigo. Kielcheski has
been charged with reckless endangerment in association with the
disappearance.
“Most Wanted” said Berg had “hung out” with Kielcheski on Aug. 11, and
they drove around the Antigo area into the evening hours, when he took
her to the home on Wausau’s east side.
Kielcheski said he didn’t see if she went into the dwelling, but did recall that it looked dark.
“Cops are truly stumped as to where she could be now, or who else may have seen here,” “Most Wanted“ said.
The crime-stopping organization also says that with every passing day, Antigo police fear the worst for Kayla Berg.
“Yet they hold out hope that they can bring her back to her family for a jubilant reunion,” “Most Wanted” said.
Berg has laparoscopic surgery scars on her abdomen, small chicken pox
scars on her right cheek and nose and has pierced ears and navel.
“Most Wanted” said at first it was thought that she may have run away,
but as days turned to weeks and then to months, they are forced to
consider the possibility that she might have met with foul play.
Many agencies including the police and Langlade County Sheriff’s
Department have worked copious hours on the case and have been
partnered with the Wausau Police Department and a number of state
agencies.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact local law enforcement agencies at 627-6411.
Wisconsin Teen Vanishes Into The Night
Kayla Berg, 15, was last seen on the night of August 11, 2009. A 24-year-old
man she'd been hanging out with dropped her off outside of an abandoned
home. She hasn't been seen since.
On August 11, 2009, Kayla Berg, 15, hung out with a friend who happened to be nearly nine years older than her.
Kevin Kielcheski, 24, drove around town with Kayla for a while that evening, until some time between 9 and 11 p.m.
At some point within that span, cops tell us Kielcheski dropped
Kayla off at her ex-boyfriend's home in Wausau, some 40 minutes away
from Kayla's home in Antigo.
As the two had reportedly been smoking pot on their joyride around
town, neither Kayla nor Kielcheski had been in an entirely lucid state
of mind.
According to police, Kielcheski never watched Kayla enter the home.
However, he did remember it being dark inside, and he saw no one else
around.
Nonetheless, Kielcheski told police he drove off, never seeing Kayla again.
Initially, police thought Kayla may have ran away -- but as days turned
into weeks and then months, they believe she might have met with foul
play.

Re: KAYLA BERG - 15 yo (2009)- Wausau WI
The disappearance of a missing Antigo teen continues to baffle investigators even after the case gets national attention.
Kayla Berg was last seen August 11th after she was dropped off by a
friend near an abandoned house in Wausau. this past weekend Kayla's
story aired on America's Most Wanted. But, investigators are still
frustrated that nothing substantial has panned out.
The search for 16-year-old Kayla Berg still going strong. Signs
posted throughout the community, in gas stations and businesses. Large
banners line the main streets of Antigo but there's still no sign of
the teen missing now for nearly seven months.
Antigo Police Chief Eric Roller says, "We really don't have any
solid anything from day one. When we first started looking into this we
don't have a solid that something drastic happened, that something good
is okay with her we just don't have anything so we can't really focus
on one area or the other and say okay this is what we're going to do."
Their latest effort, putting her face and story on America's Most
Wanted. It was a short 10 second clip, but for Kayla's mom seeing her
daughter on national television is exactly what she was hoping for.
Kayla's mom Hope Sprenger says, "It's 5-8 seconds she probably would
have never had at any other point. To me it's very exciting. It brought
more hope into my feelings."
Since that aired, Police say they've gotten a few calls. The tips coming from all over the country.
Chief Roller says, "We're getting it from all corners of the United
States. We're getting it from one coast to the next, from the north to
the south, everywhere that we're getting the tips and a lot of them are
the sightings someone that looks similar to Kayla's picture was spotted
here or spotted there."
He says it's of course a good thing people are calling but it's
frustrating for police because they have nowhere to focus their search.
Kayla could still be anywhere.
Sprenger says, "I'm just hoping she's found. I don't really feel
she's in the area anymore where she could be? Who knows, but the more I
can get out the better in my point of view."
The man who drove Kayla to the home in Wausau is Kevin Kielcheski.
He was arrested in connection to the case, but says he has no idea
where she is or if she made it into the house that night. Kielcheski is
back in court March 4th, charged with recklessly endangering safety.
If anyone has any information about the disappearance of Kayla Berg call (715) 627-6411.
