The parents of an 18-year-old Montgomery woman who went
missing Friday afternoon have organized search parties,
handing out fliers with her picture in New Jersey and New
York City in a frenzied attempt to find her.
Ambika Subramanyam was last seen by her mother, Sujatha,
Friday morning around 10 a.m. She told her mother she would
be going to a Rutgers University bookstore in New Brunswick.
When she called her father, Ravi, around 3 p.m. to ask him
if she should park her car on Somerset Street near the New
Brunswick train station, it was the last time he heard from her.
New Brunswick police Lt. J.T. Miller said said there is no
indication of foul play. "We're actively
investigating it," said Miller.
Worried after not hearing from Ambika for about three hours,
Ravi Subramanyam went to Somerset Street to look for her.
There, he found Ambika's parked black 2007 Mazda. Her
mother said the car was unlocked and inside were her car
keys, purse, debit card, driver's license and cell
phone. Ravi Subramanyam then called New Brunswick and
Rutgers University police. "She is usually very good
about calling home," said Sujatha Subramanyam.
Family friend Venki Venkataramanan of Hillsdale said he
checked with the bookstore and found there was no
transaction with her name on it.
Sujatha Subramanyam said her daughter was transferring from
Rutgers to Columbia University in New York City and had
planned to move into her dorm room Saturday and afterward
attend a birthday party.
Her mother said she took chemistry and lab courses at
Rutgers during the summer and had plans to attend medical school.
She said she does not know where her daughter could be, or
who she may be with. "I wish I knew. I have no idea.
I've called all her friends," Sujatha Subramanyam said.
She described her daughter, who is 5 foot 6 inches tall and
weighs 140 pounds, as "outgoing" and "bold."
In a plea to her daughter, Sujatha Subramanyam said,
"Come home right away. We'll bring you home from
wherever you are. We all want you back right away."
Ambika was last seen wearing a gray polo shirt and blue
jeans. Anyone with information should call (908) 904-9625 or

Re: AMBIKA SUBRAMANYAM - 18 yo - Montgomery NJ
Ambika Subramanyam is missing no longer. Ambika Subramanyam was missing
since early Friday afternoon, when she spoke to her father on the
phone. Ambika Subramanyam had last been seen on the morning of Friday,
August 21st at about 10:00 A.M. by her mother. Ambika Subramanyam had
been reportedly heading to the Rutgers University bookstore in New Brunswick, and had
placed a call to her father around 3:00 P.M. to ask permission to park
her car on Somerset Street. It was about three hours later that he
father went looking for her and found her car.
The mystery of Ambika Subramanyam going missing gripped her family as well as those
around the area, worried that someone might have kidnapped her or done
far worse. When the news finally broke that Ambika Subramanyam had been
found on Monday morning, many in the community became ecstatic that
Ambika Subramanyam was going back to her family. The details of exactly
what took place between her disappearance on Friday and her
re-appearance on Monday are still not being released by the police department at this time, but it has been reported that police have talked with her parents about the situation.
Ambika Subramanyam was going to be transferring from Rutgers University to Columbia University in New York City, and was going to be moving to her new residence no Saturday. She
was then planning to go to a birthday party after that, and with all of
these plans set in motion, it worried her parents very much when they
didn't hear from her on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Pleas were made by
Sujatha Subramanyam (her mother) for her to come home safely, and they
could give police no good reasons why the teen wouldn't return their calls. When they
found her car, her keys, purse, debit card, license, and cell phone were all left behind, leading investigators to fear the worst in the case.
In the end it seems that good news has prevailed in this case, and that
Ambika Subramanyam is back with her family. There obviously seems to be
something missing from this case, as she seemed to be an upstanding
student that wouldn't just vanish like this unless something was
immediately amiss.
Further details of this case are sure to be revealed soon, but the main
facts of the situation are that Ambika Subramanyam is no longer
considered missing, and that she is now in contact with her parents,
whether that be in person or over the phone. A detective from the New
Brunswick police stated that they would be speaking with her later on Monday, and that should provide more information into the case.
