"Jane" SILVELO - 7 yo - Framingham MA
A Framingham woman tried to burn down her home with her young
daughter inside on Friday after threatening to kill herself and blow up
her neighbors, a prosecutor said yesterday in Framingham District Court.
But her attorney, Ken Gross, said Sonja Silvelo, 35, suffers from
psychological problems and never attempted to burn her house down.
Police went to Freeman Street Friday at 7:30 p.m. and found Silvelo,
of 11 Freeman St., screaming and swearing in front of 9 Freeman St.,
prosecutor Gabe Dym said.
Police put her into custody and went into her house to make sure everything was all right.
"When they went in, there was smoke throughout the house," said Dym.
"A 7 1/2-year-old girl, the defendant's daughter, then walked up to the
police and said the house was on fire."
Police got the girl out of the house and found several DVDs and other items burning on top of the stove, which was also on fire.
Officers then questioned the residents of 9 Freeman St. who said
Silvelo had made several threats against them, some in front of their
three children, all younger than 7.
"She said 'I'm going to kill myself and all you mother (expletive
deleted)," said Dym. "She also said to the children, 'I'm going to blow
up everything. I'm going to blow your mother (expletive deleted) mother
up.' She pointed at each child and repeated it."
Silvelo was charged with attempted arson, child neglect, threatening
to commit murder, threatening to commit arson, disturbing the peace and
malicious destruction of property.
Dym asked Judge Douglas Stoddart to hold Silvelo on $5,000 bail and
to revoke her bail on another case. Silvelo was out on bail after a
July 24 arrest in Framingham on several drug charges, including
possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute.
Gross argued for $100 bail. He said his client has suffered post traumatic stress disorder since being shot seven years ago.
She was also recently laid off from her job and was being "tormented" by her neighbors, although he did not say how.
He also denied Silvelo planned on burning the house down.
"I don't see any attempted arson here," he said. "She burnt some DVDs on her stove."
Stoddart said Silvelo's behavior was "completely bizarre" and he could not predict how she would react if released.
Stoddart set Silvelo's bail at $20,000 on the new case, and revoked
her bail on her other case. That means even if she posts bail on the
new case, she will continue to be held at MCI-Framingham.
Silvelo is due back in court on Sept. 23 for a pretrial conference.
