A 5-year-old girl was in a medically induced coma after her mother allegedly stabbed her and her
3-year-old sister Wednesday in Southern California.Officers
responding to a 911 call found the unconscious 5-year-old stabbed in
the chest at a Westminster home. In another room they found her
38-year-old mother, Thuy Le, clutching her younger daughter, both
covered in blood.Officer Van Woodson said the family was staying
at the home of Le's cousin when the mother attacked her children and
then stabbed herself. Police do not have a motive.

Woodson said the 5-year-old, who was initially on life support, has a slim
chance of survival. Le and the other girl were hospitalized in stable
condition with multiple slash wounds.Le
and her daughters were staying overnight with her cousin Toan Pham, 51,
who woke up to the sound of children screaming and found the girls and
their mother covered in blood in the living room Wednesday morning.Pham told the Los Angeles Times that Le used a knife from his kitchen to stab the girls. His wife called 911."We
don't know why this happened," he told the Times in Vietnamese. "My
cousin really loves her children. There is no way I could have ever
imagined this could happen."Le asked to spend the night at his
house, as she has done once before, and slept with her daughters on a
spare mattress in the living room, Pham said.Pham said his
cousin had been having financial problems since she sold her massage
therapy business, but they didn't usually talk about money when she
came over."I feel terrible that my nieces had to suffer so much," he said. "And to have this happen in my house."A woman in the San Fernando Valley was charged with stabbing two of her
three daughters before cutting her own arms on Sept. 2. Antonia Gomez
had recently lost her job and had a history of mental illness.

A Garden Grove woman stabbed her daughters,
ages 3 and 5, with a kitchen knife at a relative's home in Westminster
on Wednesday and then stabbed herself, police said. The woman was holding one of her daughters in her arms and
both were covered in blood when officers arrived in the 14000 block of
Starsia Street just after 6:30 a.m., according to Westminster police.
The officers took the girl from her mother and detained the mother
without incident, police said. Other family members at the home directed the officers to a bedroom where the second stabbed girl was found.

The
victims are expected to recover. The mother, Thuy Le, 38, was being
guarded by police as physicians treated her for superficial wounds.
