Golden Valley police are investigating the death of a baby. Chief
Stacy Altonen said in a press release officers were called to 1400
Douglas Drive at 11:20 Friday morning. In an apartment, they found a
“juvenile male to be in “medical distress”. The child was taken to
North Memorial Medical Center by ambulance but was pronounced dead at
the hospital. A neighbor says the baby was 3-months old and
his father was arrested.
Last Saturday, an eight-month old infant
died in Bloomington. That child’s father has been charged by police
with first degree murder. Autopsy results show the infant’s injuries
were consistent with being beaten and shaken.

Officers responded to a 911 call at an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Douglas Drive at 11:20 a.m.


Upon arrival, authorities found a juvenile male in
'medical distress.' First aid was administered and the child was taken
to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.


The victim died a short time later.


Police say they have an unidentified adult male in custody and are calling their efforts a 'death investigation.'


The names of the victim or man arrested have been released.

A Golden Valley man was charged with second-degree manslaughter in
the death of his four-month-old son Tuesday by the Hennepin County
Attorney's Office.

Golden Valley Police responded to a call of a "baby not breathing" at an
apartment on Douglas Drive North around 11:20 a.m. Officers found the
child lying on his back as a woman attempted to give him CPR. Emergency
crews continued CPR as he was taken to North Memorial Medical Center,
where he was pronounced dead.
The father was contacted by phone. Franklin said he had awakened to find the baby not breathing.
Upon further questioning, Franklin changed his story. He claimed as he was
walking the child to daycare when he tripped, causing the child to fall
on its head. He expressed fear that child protection authorities or
authorities would become involved so he returned to the apartment.
He claimed he removed the baby's clothes and buried it. He then said that
version of events was not true and that his son injured his head when
he fell from the couch to the carpeted floor.
Franklin then claimed that the baby was crying which "pissed him off," and he
threw a baby bottle and struck the infant's head. He said the boy began
to cry inconsolably, so he placed the baby face down on a pillow and
covered him with a quilt. Then he claims he went into the bedroom,
smoked marijuana and made phone calls to a sex-related chat line.
Franklin then said after 30 minutes he came out of the bedroom to find
the child unresponsive, and subsequently called 911. He then ran into
the hallway for help and found the woman whom gave the baby CPR.
The mother of the infant claims she had left the apartment around 7:30 a.m.
Friday. The baby had been sleeping after a feeding on the couch – where
it regularly slept on his back – as the parents do not own a crib.
The Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy Saturday, finding no internal
injuries. The baby had a bump on his head and a cut shaped like a
finger nail on his nose. He also had a hemorrhage in each eye, which is
consistent with an asphyxial death.

He pleaded guilty last week to second-degree manslaughter.At his plea hearing last week, a forlorn-looking Franklin admitted throwing a baby bottle at Willie Franklin IV, mildly bruising him, in August last year. Then he put the baby face down on a pillow and covered him with a blanket later determined to weigh 4 pounds.Franklin, who was alone with the boy, then went into another room of his apartment, smoked marijuana, called an X-rated chat line and turned up the music so he couldn't hear his son crying. He admitted being in the other room for 30 minutes. When he returned, the baby wasn't breathing. Franklin called police and tried to resuscitate the infant, he testified.In a previous court session, the medical examiner said he was unable to determine a cause of the child's death.
