Police investigating murder-suicide inside home
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (WSVN) -- Miami-Dade Police are investigating a murder-suicide involving a father, mother and their 2-year-old daughter.
Late Tuesday afternoon, a large crime scene van was parked outside a home at 16242 SW 304 Terrace, as police investigated what exactly lead to the triple murder-suicide involving Shanna Edwards, her daughter Gynia Williams and the child's father, Jermaine Williams.
Police discovered the scene after one of the mother's coworker at a retirement home in Southwest Miami-Dade called a family member to find out why she had not showed up to work that morning. That family member later called police after going to the house and finding that no one would answer the door.
Police entered and discovered the three bodies. A motive and cause of their deaths remain under investigation.
Family members at the scene said the mother of the little girl lived at the home. The sister of the deceased mother, Mavis Wilson, remembered her sister fondly, just outside the crime scene. "I loved her, and I miss her," she said wiping away tears. "She's quiet. She had a happy family."
Family members said the father would visit them from Jamaica on a special visa and said he had just arrived a few days before the discovery of the tragic scene.
The road in front of that home remained closed to traffic late that afternoon as police continued to investigate the scene.
