There's no obvious reason Michael Nichols might run off
with his two boys, according to investigators.
His relationship with his family appeared to be loving and
tightknit. He held a steady job at Millard Refrigerated
Services. His boss described him as hardworking and
dependable.
Yet neither his family nor his employers have seen him or
his two boys in more than a month.
Nichols, 33, called in sick Aug. 12.
The boys, 9-year-old Joshua and 14-year-old Ryan, were last
seen Aug. 9, when their grandmother took them shopping for
school clothes.
The father left three uncashed payroll checks at work and a
fully functioning motor scooter at his parents' house
in Mobile, according to investigators and Nichols'
parents.
Mobile police Detective Jackie Bridgeforth, who is working
on the case, said it remains unclear whether Nichols simply
fled or he and his children were the victims of foul play.
"He hasn't done anything criminally wrong,"
she said. "We just want to know if he and the kids are
all right."
The condition of a missing person's residence often
provides clues as to whether they left voluntarily or under
suspicious circumstances, Bridgeforth said, but she
hasn't been able to check out Nichols' house.
In fact, she hasn't even been able to find it.

Michael Nichols is on a mission to find his missing family. His
33-year-old son, Michael and his two grandchildren, 9-year-old Joshua
and 14-year-old Ryan, were last seen together on August 9, 2009. The
family went shopping for school supplies. "After we went
shopping (Michael) came home," said Nichols' father. "We sat around and
talked for awhile. After that he got up and said love ya, see y'all
later." Nichols' son Michael was last seen at his work in Theodore on August 12, 2009. Nichols can't see why his son would just leave. The
younger Michael Nichols was divorced 8 years ago with full custody of
the children. Nichol's father said the incident isn't a custody issue. Nichol's
father said the mother and sister of the children are worried as well.
"They got an 11-year-old daughter and she's with her mother, and they
don't know where they are either." Joshua is 4'8, 85 pounds.
Ryan is 5'4, around 180 pounds. Their father, Michael is 5'10, 160
pounds. His last known car is a 1995 Mercury Villager mini-van with
Alabama tag O5180AY. "We got flyers all over the south. On the internet, we've gone as far as Maine, but ain't nobody heard nothing or seen nothing." If

MOBILE, Alabama - News 5 has learned that a man and his two young sons are back at home after being reported missing for almost two months. Michael Nichols and his two boys, 9-year-old Joshua and 13-year-old Ryan were last seen August 9 at the Nichols' home on Riverside Drive in Mobile.
