"John" WILSON - 5 months (2009) - Terre Haute IN
A husband and wife face felony neglect charges for injuries allegedly inflicted on their infant.
Christopher W. Wilson, 20, and Lucy Dawn Wilson, 19, were arraigned Thursday in
Vigo Superior Court Division 3 on two charges each of neglect of a
dependent resulting in serious bodily injury, a class-B felony. The
charges allege they deprived their five-month-old son, who was born
premature, of medical treatment for broken legs.
Christopher Wilson also faces a charge of battery resulting in serious bodily
injury to a person less than age 14, a class-B felony, for allegedly
causing the injuries to his infant son.
An investigation by Det. Jim Richardson of the Terre Haute Police Department revealed that the
child had been taken to a doctor’s office in August for a swollen leg.
An examination revealed that the baby’s right leg was broken, and the
child was transferred to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
There, another doctor examined the child and told police the break was
a “spiral fracture” which is caused by intentional twisting of the leg.
Richardson also reported that the doctor at Riley Hospital also found healing
fractures in both of the baby’s legs, which raises concerns about
abuse. The injuries come from a “forceful yank of the leg,” not
accidental handling, the doctor told investigators.
In another statement taken from Lucy Wilson, Richardson reports, she said her
husband had battered and injured the baby and threatened to harm her if
she told anyone about it.
Judge David Bolk appointed separate public defenders for each parent.
He also set a trial date of March 16 for Lucy Wilson.
A trial date for Christopher Wilson will be set at a hearing Oct. 6.
Bail for both Lucy and Christopher Wilson is set at $75,000 each, with no 10 percent allowed.
A class-B felony carries a penalty of 6 to 20 years in prison, and up to $10,000 in fines.
