Bond was set at $1 million Monday for Jamie Pittman, the mother of a
4-year-old boy who police say was abused by five adults living in a
rental home on North 25th Avenue.
Pittman was the sixth person arrested and charged with felony child
abuse in the case. Police spokesman Synarus Green said Pittman was
arrested Friday and had an initial appearance in Municipal Court on
Monday.Arrested
last week were Sue Miller, Nancy Miller, Patricia Aguilar, Francys
Albertson and Christopher Lee. Municipal Court Judge Jolly Matthews set
bond at $1 million for each Friday.Green said the mother had previously lived at the 215 N. 25th Ave. home but was not a resident at the time of the other arrests.Police
made the initial arrests Sept. 29 after they received an anonymous tip
from someone concerned about the welfare of the child inside the
residence. Police said the child was in Sue Miller's custody.Green
said the relationship between the victim and nine other children found
in the home was determined but that information would not be released
because they were not part of the investigation. The children were taken from the home by Forrest County Department of Human Services officials. The child is in stable condition at a Jackson hospital, police said.Police
said the child's body was covered with new and old bruises, marks, cuts
and abrasions. He had cuts on his head and body, broken teeth with
damaged gums and internal abdominal injuries caused by blunt-force
trauma.
