Police and deputies are looking for a 12-year-old Los Angeles boy who ran away from an emergency foster care facility.

On Monday, Christopher Perez's mother was admitted to a hospital near
downtown LA and he was taken into protective custody by the Department
of Children and Family Services. He was dropped off at the facility at 13131 Racimo Drive in
Whittier and was last seen playing video games in a bedroom, said Sgt.
Kris Werner of the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Station. The boy disappeared about 10 p.m. Foul play is not suspected.

While no one saw him walk out, police and deputies believe he left on his own.

Perez said he didn't want to be the facility and
Christopher Perez wanted to be with his mother, Werner said. Deputies also used bloodhounds that traced his scent to Norwalk train station.

On Tuesday afternoon, a convenience store clerk let the boy use a phone
near Firestone Boulevard and Compton Avenue in LA. But deputies missed
him by five minutes. Officers think Perez last spoke to his sister who encouraged him to go to the police.

Werner said they tried to contact relatives of the boy but they weren't home.

LAPD officers also searched locations in downtown Los Angeles where Perez's
siblings live and also in Hollywood where a cousin resides and where he
goes to school. Deputies looked at possible unincorporated county areas in Los Angeles where the boy could be.

Werner said photos were left at the hotels where Perez's relatives live in case anyone sees the child.

Perez was last seen wearing a green T-shirt with the words "we care" on the front and the words "Korean air" on the back.

He has long black hair and is wearing a silver cross necklace.

The LAPD's Central Station and the sheriff's Norwalk station are working together on the missing case.

Christopher
Perez, 12, made it to a cousin's home in Hollywood, according to Lt.
Albert Gavin of the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Station. He
said the relative then took the boy to the LAPD's Hollywood Station at
8 p.m. "He's fine," Gavin said.

How the boy reached Hollywood isn't yet known.

Perez
ran away about 10 p.m. Monday from the Whittier facility at 13131
Racimo Drive. He'd been placed there after the Department of Children
and Family Services took him into protective custody earlier when his
mother was admitted to a hospital near downtown L.A. He was last seen playing video games in a bedroom, said

facility and wanted to be with his mother. Deputies used bloodhounds to trace the boy's scent to the Norwalk train station.
