Investigators are searching for a 2-year-old boy believed to have been abducted by his father from Lewiston.Charles
W. Remacle, 39, reportedly took his son, 2-year-old Colin Matthew
Remacle, from a day care last Thursday. The child was supposed to be
returned to his mother at noon Saturday. The two were last seen
Tuesday morning at a Pendleton, Ore., motel. Police said the father is
known to frequent the Wallowa, Ore., area.Lewiston police
detectives said they are concerned because Charles Remacle took his son
without the mother’s permission from the Lewiston day care. The father
is currently on misdemeanor probation, and police said there is also a
protection order between Charles Remacle and the child’s mother.“There are facts of the case that cause us concern,” Lewiston police Capt. Tom Greene said.Charles
Remacle faces the possibility of custodial interference charges because
of the incident, police said, and the case is considered a felony
because detectives believe he crossed state lines. The child’s mother reported the incident to police on Monday.Detectives
said there was no indication Charles Remacle planned to leave the area
prior to his departure, even for a short time, during a search of his
home Tuesday. Police said Charles Remacle is possibly bi-polar and no
medication appeared to be missing from his home.Officers said they do not believe the child is in any danger.“We’re
concerned, but we don’t have any reason (to believe) that he would harm
the child,” said Lt. Doug Clark with the Lewiston Police Department.
Charles Remacle’s parenting plan required the child’s return by noon
Saturday, and police said Remacle is in violation of that order.
Officers were in the process Tuesday of issuing a warrant for his
arrest. The alleged abduction is being distributed by the
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Police said it did
not meet the criteria of an AMBER alert because of the amount of time
that passed before it was reported to police.Charles Remacle is
described as 6 feet tall, 215 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
Colin Remacle is described as 33 inches tall with blond hair and brown
eyes.Charles Remacle is believed to be driving a blue 1995 Nissan pickup with Idaho license plate N122410.Police
are asking anyone who may have information or who may have seen Colin
or Charles Remacle to call the Lewiston Police Department at (208)
746-0171 or the department’s secret witness tip line at (208) 748-2746.

Police said the father of a missing toddler may need medication. The
search is on for 2-year-old Colin Matthew Remacle, who was reported
missing this week, and is believed to be with his father, 39-year-old
Charles Remacle, whose whereabouts are unknown.
Colin was last
seen by his mother, Catherine Gropp, Thursday, when she said she
dropped him off at day care. Gropp said a two-day visitation with his
father was supposed to end Saturday, but he never showed up. Lewiston
Police are now launching a nationwide search for the boy and his
father, who now has a warrant for his arrest.
"As of this
morning, there now is an arrest warrant for Mr. Remacle for child
custody interference," said Lewiston Police Department Captain Tom
Greene. "It is a felony warrant, because we do know that he has taken
the child out-of-state."
Remacle was last known to be at a hotel in Pendleton, Oregon because of a phone message left at Remacle's Lewiston home.
"One
of the places that Mr. Remacle liked to go, according to his ex-wife,
was the Wallowa area in Oregon, and we have been in contact with the
Wallowa County Sheriff's Office," said Greene.
Gropp told police
Remacle suffers from bi-polarity, and upon searching his home, police
said it appears he had not taken medication with him wherever he went.
Along with the condition, Greene said Remacle is on probation for a domestic violence conviction.
"We
have discovered that he lost his job about six months ago and he
concealed that from people, so there are some things that cause us
concern," said Greene. "His mental condition, whether or not he's had
his medication, whether he's depressed because of losing his job.
There's just some additional facts that cause concern for her (Gropp)"
Gropp said it was something she wouldn't have expected from her ex-husband.
"I just want Chuck to return safely and to bring Colin back home safely," said Gropp.
