TOMMY WOLF - 9 yo (2009) - Oklahoma County/Nichols Hills OK
— A Nichols Hills physician was arrested on a murder complaint this
morning in connection with the death of his 9-year-old son, officials
said.
Stephen P. Wolf, 51, is being held without bail in the Oklahoma County jail,
a jail spokeswoman said. Police Chief Richard Mask
said Wolf's son Tommy, 9, died this morning shortly after officers
responded to the Wolf residence near Pennsylvania Avenue and Wilshire
Boulevard."I can't perceive it happening anywhere anytime but it
does and Nichols Hills is not that much different from any other
community," Mask said. "I know that sounds strange, but people are
people and everyone has their problems"There were three 911 calls.
The first 911 call came about 3:55 a.m. from a neighbor, Mask said.
Two more calls placed by Mary M. Wolf, Stephen's wife and Tommy's mother,
came from the Wolf residence soon after.Responding officers found Tommy
wounded inside the Wolf residence, 1715 Elmhurst Ave., Mask said.
He was later pronounced dead.Police found Stephen Wolf inside the home
and disarmed him, Mask said. Police recovered a knife at the scene,
but would not say how Tommy died.
Mary Wolf remained hospitalized late this morning with defensive puncture
wounds to her hands and mouth, Mask said. Her wounds are not thought to
be life-threatening."We found a weapon in the residence," Mask said.
"It's also been recovered. It was a knife."Investigators
think an altercation started in Tommy's room soon before the first 911
call, Mask said. Mary Wolf was wounded trying to protect her son, Mask
said.Tommy was a third grader at Christ the King Catholic School,
located about two blocks west of the Wolf home, and a Cub Scout in a
pack associated with the school. A school spokeswoman said counseling
is available to students, and school administrators and a priest were
meeting with students this morning. She said the school would have no
further comment.Public records show Stephen Wolf is a licensed
physician and owns the house with his wife. Stephen Wolf was a
defendant in a settled medical negligence suit in Oklahoma County last
year. Oklahoma Medical Board records show Wolf has never been
disciplined for a job-related infraction.
Crime scene tape blocked off the house this morning and wrapped around a
basketball hoop in the driveway to the porch of a house next door. A
neighbor, who asked to remain anonymous, said she often saw the Wolf
family gardening together and working outdoors. She also said the Wolfs
recently had a large Halloween party and nothing seemed amiss with the
family. The neighbor described the family as "close" and the boy as "sweet."A
telephone answering service employee said Wolf's office at NW 63 and
Santa Fe Avenue, which he shares with another physician, is closed
today and scheduled to re-open Tuesday.

A doctor in suburban Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was arrested Monday
and accused in the early morning death of his 9-year-old son, police
said. Dr. Stephen Wolf, 51, faces first-degree murder charges, said Nichols Hills, Oklahoma, Police Chief Richard Mask.
Third-grader Tommy Wolf was dead when authorities arrived at the family's home about
4 a.m. CT in response to several 911 calls, Mask said. "It was
obvious there had been some type of altercation" when police arrived,
Mask said. Arriving officers disarmed Wolf, he said, but did not
elaborate except to say a knife was found at the home. Although
the investigation is still under way, authorities believe the
altercation may have begun in the boy's room "and proceeded from there"
to other rooms, Mask said. Mary Wolf, Stephen Wolf's wife and
the boy's mother, suffered defensive puncture wounds to her hands and a
wound to her mouth, and was being treated at a hospital, Mask said.
Authorities believe she attempted to "intercede and protect her child,"
he said. Her wounds were not considered life-threatening. The
first 911 call came in at 3:53 a.m., from the Wolf family's next-door
neighbor. Mary Wolf had run to the house for help, and the resident
reported someone was knocking on the door, Mask said.
Mary Wolf made the second call, but hung
up, possibly because she was defending herself, he said. She also made
the third call, after police had arrived. Mask said tapes of the 911
calls would be released later. "We are trying to put all the
facts together," Mask said. The boy's death, he said, had had a
"devastating" effect on Nichols Hills, a small town about 15 miles
northwest of Oklahoma City. "It's had a huge impact," he said. Officials
at the boy's school, Christ the King Catholic School, said teachers and
students had been made aware of his death.
Stephen Wolf is listed as an internist in Oklahoma City. In his booking photo,
on the Oklahoma County sheriff's Web site, a wound can be seen on his
head.

Re: TOMMY WOLF - 9 yo (2009) - Oklahoma County/Nichols Hills OK
Stephen Wolf is paid to treat the sick, but police allege that it was Wolf, himself, who needed the help.
Wolf, an Oklahoma doctor, was jailed Monday for murdering his son
after officers found the 9-year-old fatally wounded and the child's
mother suffering from injuries incurred while trying to defend the boy,
police said.
Wolf called his son the devil as he stabbed him, according to The Oklahoman.
The child was a third grader at Christ the King Catholic School, about two blocks from the Wolf home.
Police Chief Richard Mask said the first officers on the scene took
a knife away from the 51-year-old Wolf. Mask said the child died soon
after police arrived. The mother, Mary Wolf, was treated for puncture
wounds to her hands and mouth.
Mask said investigators are trying to determine what prompted the attack.
Mary Wolf pounded on her neighbor's door for help. The neighbor
called 911, and Mary Wolf then went back to her house and called 911
herself.
Stephen Wolf was booked into Oklahoma County Jail. A booking photo
showed him with a bloody gash on his forehead that he apparently
sustained when he banged against a cabinet as an officer disarmed him,
Mask said.
He was being held without bond, and jail officials said they don't know if he has an attorney yet.
A telephone answering service employee said the office Wolf shares with other physicians was closed Monday.
Investigators think the boy was attacked in his room soon before the first 911 call, Mask said.
Wolf is a 1988 graduate of the University of Oklahoma’s medical school and a specialist in internal medicine.
Police Chief Richard Mask said that investigators are still trying
to get "all the facts together" and that the death has had a
"devastating" effect on 4,000-person city. Nichols Hills, an area of
large, stately homes, is adjacent to Oklahoma City.

OKLAHOMA CITY - An Oklahoma judge has ruled a doctor
diagnosed with bipolar disorder who is accused of fatally
stabbing his 9-year-old son is competent to stand trial on a
first-degree murder charge.
The judge's Tuesday ruling didn't address whether
Dr. Stephen Paul Wolf was legally insane when he allegedly
attacked his son, Tommy.
Wolf was arrested Nov. 16 after a police officer found him in
the family's suburban Oklahoma City home, hovering over
his son, who had two knives stuck in his chest. The officer
heard Wolf say: "You know he's got the devil in him."
A state psychologist reported Wolf understands the charge
against him. Wolf was diagnosed before his arrest with
bipolar disorder and told the judge he is taking a variety
of prescription drugs.

Stephen Wolf To Spend 45 Days In Mental Institution
Dr. Stephen Paul Wolf Was Insane At Time Of Son's Death, Judge Says
June 6, 2011
OKLAHOMA CITY -- [/b]An Oklahoma County district judge ruled Friday that Dr. Stephen Paul Wolf isn't guilty of first-degree murder or assault and battery with a deadly weapon in the death of his 9-year-old son.
District Judge Donald Deason made the ruling after prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed that psychiatric reports of Wolf's mental condition concluded that he had a bipolar disorder with psychotic features.
Wolf will spend the next 45 days in a mental institution before a judge determines if he needs to remain hospitalized. Two psychologists will decide if the doctor is still insane, said Oklahoma County public defender Bob Ravtz.
Ravtz, who has represented other clients with mental issues, said it's a long shot that doctors will declare Wolf sane.
"I've only seen it once in 20 years in Oklahoma County,"Ravtz said.
Ravtz said the medical experts will have to make their recommendation in 35 days.
"Of course, at any one time, the district attorney has the right to object," Ravtz said. "No matter what, it's just a medical opinion and sometimes, doctors are wrong."
Wolf's attorney, Mack Martin, said the doctor is in a hospital, where he's receiving medication.
