Luis Obispo Police Department officials say they’re currently gathering
information on Mitchell – including a search into whether he has a
criminal record.Capt. Chris Staley said the department is hoping
to release a photo of Mitchell and officials are in the process of
finding one. Police believe the girl left voluntarily with Mitchell,
but are concerned about her safety. Staley said it’s very
unusual for a 16-year-old girl to be traveling with a stranger 36 years
older. Police believe the girl met Mitchell online and some of her
friends said she was thinking of changing her hair to blonde. But
authorities aren’t sure if she has done that or not. The girl has been missing
since Monday and her family is very concerned about her, Staley said. “We’re
concerned for her well-being,” Staley said. The girl is 5 feet 4 inches
tall, 135 pounds and has brown hair and hazel eyes, although she may
have cut her hair and dyed it blonde.

A Michigan man found in Pismo Beach with a San Luis Obispo teenager has been arrested.
Bradford Allen Mitchell, 52, was found with the 16-year-old girl at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The teen hadn't been seen since Monday. Mitchell was arrested on suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and taken to County Jail, according to police. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.Police originally said it was thought the two had met online and that Mitchell traveled to California to meet her. Although police believed the girl left voluntarily with Mitchell, they were concerned about her safety and thought they may have been traveling back to Michigan.

To Lara's Mom -
the original article posted was online at one point, and carried both pictures as shown. Our forum is dedicated to justice for all missing and exploited children and when we hear of a case, we open a thread to bring attention to that child - and provide a place for members to comment - we have even had missing children (runaways) contact us via our forum to get help in returning home. If you would like a personal response, please pm your email to us. Thank you.

REMOVING NAMES FROM THIS WEBSITE
We get most of our information from Main Stream Media. You will find most posts with links to our stories. It is our policy here at J4C NOT to remove names from this website. Due to the overwhelming requests we've recently had to remove names and stories, we, the moderators and administrators have felt it necessary to make it very clear that we will not remove stories or rewrite history. Unfortunately, once something is on the internet, it stays on the internet. Even if we remove stories, names will still show up in searches and can be accessed through Google's Cache. There is also a website called the "Way Back Machine" where you can access webpages as they were days, years, and months ago.
It isn't that we do not have compassion for your situations, we are here to raise awareness and help where we can, in the fight against child abuse, exploitation and murder. It is not our intention to cause further harm to a child by leaving their names here, but you cannot unring a bell. Once it is out there, it is out there.
Furthermore, to the people that have threatened us with lawsuits, you may want to check the law. It is NOT illegal to publish a minor's name. Sometimes we will redact a name if the publishing of the name is causing even further distress to the child, but these are very rare cases, and I personally will speak to the parents or caregivers and make a decision based on the circumstances.
These are not easy decisions for us, and we do try to have compassion. I would like to point out that none of us can police the entire internet. As much as some people would like to erase the past, unfortunately it just isn't possible once it is published.
I'd like to add a special note to teenagers who think about running away. If you don't want your name plastered all over the internet and showing up on search engines, don't run away.

Re: LARA CONE - 16 yo (2009) - San Luis Obispo CA
My personal reluctance to erase all reference to these cases is that there are so many of them and it's news that parents and teens need to be aware of. We have a missing girl under similar circumstances right now.

I would love these teens to come here and stand up and talk about their ordeal and how they could have avoided it, rather than try to sweep it under the rug.
Sexual predators are an epidemic, and so are runaway teens who think they know it all. It's a match made in hell and it needs lots and lots of publicity until every child and teen is aware of the extreme danger you can encounter on the internet. Lara, it would be very brave but a wonderful thing if you would like to help us here try to get the message out to your peers.
