"Toddler Jane Doe" - 3 yo - Portland OR

PORTLAND - The woman accused of stabbing her boy friend's little girl had her first day in court Monday.

Serenity Sanchez pled Not Guilty to charges of Attempted Murder, Assault and Illegal Use of a Weapon.

Saturday
evening, Portland police officers responded to a domestic disturbance
call in the 3300 block of Southeast 129th Avenue. When officers
arrived, they found the badly wounded three-year-old and quickly called
for medical help. An ambulance took the toddler to a local hospital.

Police
say Sanchez, 22, was fighting with her boy friend, who she was living
with. During that fight she allegedly started slashing the toddler in
the stomach and abdomen. According to the accusations revealed Monday
in court, the little girl, though she was horribly injured, was
conscious enough to tell medics that she was asleep in her room when
Sanchez came in and started hitting her, then started slashing her with
a knife.

The girl was taken to Doernbecher Children's Hospital
in critical condition. Her condition remained very serious, but doctors
now expect her to survive.
