"Infant" John Doe - 22 months - Beatrice NE
BEATRICE, Neb. -- A 17-year-old
mother from Beatrice, Nebraska is accused of using duct tape to
restrain her 22-month old son against the wall of the family's home.
Beatrice police say they received a tip Friday morning, which included
a photo of the child taped to the wall. The picture showed the boy
crying, and he appeared to be traumatized. The child's feet were on the
floor. Police say it appeared the mother, and an 18-year old
man, taped the child to the wall for their entertainment, not to
discipline the boy. It was not clear how investigators reached that
conclusion, nor how long the child may have been restrained. The name of the 17-year-old mother was withheld, because of her age. She's jailed in Lincoln.
In addition, an 18-year-old man, Corde Honea, was arrested at the home,
after police found two handguns, holsters, and ammunition that had been
reported stolen in a recent Beatrice burglary. Honea, and the
17-year-old woman are facing charges of felony child abuse, possession
of stolen property, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Bond was set at $20,000 Monday for the Beatrice teen accused of duct-taping a toddler to a wall.
Corde Honea,18, was arrested Friday morning after police obtained images of a 22-month-old child duct-taped to the wall.
Honea is currently being held at the Gage County Detention Facility.
The
child belonged to Honea’s 17-year-old live-in girlfriend. Upon making
the arrests at Honea’s residence, officers also found stolen weapons
and drug paraphernalia.
Honea is being charged with child
abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property
and possession of stolen firearms.
According to the police
report, images were obtained that were taken on Dec. 31, 2009, of the
child’s mother and Honea taunting the child by duct-taping his Sippy
cup just out of reach.
Other images showed the child duct-taped
to the wall with pieces of duct tape at the wrist and strips across his
torso and legs preventing any movement.
The mother admitted that she pinned the child against the wall while Honea duct-taped him so his back was against the wall.
A few images show Honea physically instructing the child to put up his middle finger.
According to the police report, the child was visibly upset, crying in all of the pictures.
The mother stated to police that her and Honea’s actions were for their own entertainment.
The
mother, whose name has not been released because she is a minor,
further admitted that the child is regularly placed inside a coat
closet with no light and the bi-fold style door blocked to keep the
child from exiting.
She also stated that they were most likely
under the influence of marijuana at the time, citing that they use it
often in the house. Two homemade smoking devices were found in the
house.
Police also found two stolen handguns in the house and
ammunition in the basement. Honea admitted the firearms were taken
during a burglary.
The mother is being held at the Lancaster County Youth Detention Center and the child has been turned over to state authorities.
At
the time of his most recent arrest, Honea was out on bond after being
arrested Dec. 18 in Beatrice for burglary, possession of a stolen
firearm, possession of stolen property and possession of a defaced
firearm.

Re: "Infant" John Doe - 22 months - Beatrice NE
Both Beatrice residents accused of
duct-taping a 22-month-old child to a wall and barricading him in a
closet have pleaded not guilty to felony child-abuse charges.
Eighteen-year-old Jayla Hamm and 18-year-old
Corde Honea (CORD HO-nee) were arrested in January after police found
pictures of Hamm's son crying while being duct-taped to a wall. Hamm
also told police the boy was regularly confined in a dark closet.
Hamm pleaded not guilty Wednesday after a
judge again refused to move her case to juvenile court. She was 17 when
the incident occurred.
Honea pleaded not guilty in April to charges
of child abuse and possession of stolen firearms. Honea also faces a
separate burglary charge related to a November incident.
The boy was placed in state custody.
