SEBASTIAN DUFFEK - 5 Weeks (2008) - Lincoln NE

A 23-year-old Lincoln man accused of shaking his baby son to death has pleaded no contest to attempted second-degree murder.
Christopher Duffek had been charged with child abuse resulting in death, which
carried a possible sentence of 20 years to life. Now he'll face one to
50 years in prison.


At a hearing Monday, sentencing was set for April 1.
Police believe Duffek held 5-week-old Sebastian by the neck in December 2008
and shook him as long as half an hour. Police say Duffek was frustrated
that the baby wouldn't stop crying.
Authorities say Duffek suffers from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, but in
August a judge found Duffek competent to stand trial.
Duffek remains in treatment at the state psychiatric hospital in Lincoln.
