A search is under way to find a 7-year-old Paulding County boy last
seen more than a month ago, police said. The boy's biological father
allegedly lied under oath to get custody of the child, according to
police.
Joshua "Josh" Tyler Hoover, of Hiram, was turned over to his
biological father, William Eugene Hoover, on Jan. 15, according to
Crpl. Brandon Gurley with the Paulding County Sheriff's Office. At that
time, William Hoover presented a court order from Carroll County to
Paulding County officials, Gurley said.
The child was last seen leaving with his father at William Hoover's home in Temple on Jan. 17, Gurley said.
Earlier this month, Carroll County Superior Court ordered that
custody of the child be returned to his grandmother, Julia Jeorge.
Jeorge previously had custody of Josh since November, following the
death of the boy's biological mother.
Hoover, 50, committed a “fraud against the court” by lying under
oath to obtain the original order in January, according to the Carroll
County court.
Police believe Hoover and the boy may be traveling in a green 2001
Ford Expedition with expired Georgia tag BDU 9044, Gurley said. Another
14-year-old boy also may be traveling with them.
"There are several states he could have gone to," Gurley told the AJC.
Hoover may be armed and dangerous, police said. The suspect is described as a white male, 6-feet-4 inches tall and 300 pounds.
Josh weighs 120 pounds and is 4-feet-8 inches tall with red hair and green eyes, police said.
Anyone who may have seen either Hoover or Josh is asked to call 911
immediately and alert the Paulding County Sheriff's Office at
770-443-3010.

The Paulding County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that they were
searching for a 7-year-old boy. Investigators said they had a good idea
of who the boy might be with. Paulding County investigators said they suspect Josh Hoover was with his biological father William Eugene Hoover.
The
two haven't been seen since January 17 William Hoover picked the
7-year-old up from his grandmother's house. At that time a judge
granted Hoover custody of his son Josh. Investigators said earlier this month they discovered that Hoover lied to the judge to get custody of his son.
The grandmother has had custody of Josh Hoover since his mom passed away in November 2009.
Josh Hoover is described as standing 4'8" and weighing about 120 pounds. Josh Hoover has red hair and green eyes. Police
said Hoover's father is considered armed and dangerous. An arrest
warrant has been issued for Hoover for felony interstate interference
with child custody.

Re: JOSHUA "Josh" TYLER HOOVER - 7 yo - Paulding County/ Temple GA
PAULDING COUNTY, GA -- The Paulding County Sheriff's Office is
stepping up efforts to find a 7-year old boy who is missing and may be
in danger. He's with his father but he's not supposed to be. He's
supposed to be living with his grandmother.
Julia Jeorge said her grandson Josh Hoover needs to be in school.
She said the boy has had a disruptive life. His mother died this past
September. Before she died, she asked George to take care of her son.
On September 10th Jeorge was given custody of Josh.
Jeorge says the boy's father, William Hoover, hasn't been a part of
his son's life since last July when Josh's mother got a temporary
protective order against him. But William Hoover came back into Josh's
life on January 15th. That's when sheriff deputies knocked on Jeorge's
door. "They asked if Joshua is there and I said yes, and they said get
his clothes," Jeorge said.
William Hoover, who lived with his mother in Temple, went to a
Carroll County Judge and was granted custody of Josh. Deputies took the
boy and returned him to his father. Paulding County investigators said
the 7-year old boy was last seen January 17th leaving the Temple home.
Jeorge said she hasn't heard from Josh or his father since. She
believes William Hoover is preventing her grandson from calling her.
On February 12th Jeorge's attorney went back to the Judge in Carroll
County who granted custody to Hoover, and asked for a motion to set
aside judgement. The Judge determined that William Hoover lied to him
during the custody hearing. "If he was irrational enough to do that, I
can't say what else he would do," said Jeorge.
"When the court heard Ms. Jeorge's testimony, the court set aside
that order and set aside Hoover's custody," said Jeorge's attorney
Michael Manely. Julia Jeorge was granted custody and Hoover was ordered
to return the boy.
The Paulding County Sheriff's Office declared Josh Hoover a missing
and endangered child. They said his father is known to carry guns and
may be dangerous. Jeorge said she's worried about her grandson's
safety. "I'm worried that he's frightened, that he's not going to
school and he's not getting the care he needs," she said.
The Paulding County Sheriff's Office is conducting a nationwide
search for Josh Hoover. Anyone who knows where he is should call the
Sheriff's Office at 770-443-3010. Anyone who sees Josh or his father
should call 911.

A father accused of lying under oath to get custody of his 7-year-old
son and then leaving the state with the child turned himself into
Paulding County police Friday afternoon.
William Eugene Hoover, 50, brought the child, Josh Hoover, to the
sheriff's office two days after the search began to find the child.
Police believe William Hoover may have taken the child to North
Carolina, according to Crpl. Brandon Gurley with the Paulding County
Sherriff's Office. Josh Hoover was last seen leaving with his father at
William Hoover's home in Temple on Jan. 17, Gurley said.
William Hoover had been granted custody of the child after
presenting a Carroll County court order to Paulding County officials,
Gurley said. Josh had been in the custody of his maternal grandmother
following his mother's death in November.
But earlier this month, Carroll County Superior Court ordered that
custody of the child be returned to his grandmother, Julia Jeorge. By
then, Hoover and the child could not be located.
Police believe family and friends told Hoover about the news reports
seeking to locate the child, and that prompted him to return the child,
Gurley said.
William Hoover was charged with interstate interference with child custody. His bond was set at $2,950 late Friday afternoon.
The child, who was questioned by investigators, has been returned to his grandmother, Gurley said.
