The search continued Saturday night for a 12-year-old Pike County boy who was last seen on Thursday.
Authorities say Josh Miller, who lives in the Oatsville community, is suspected of running away from home.
The search began Friday, and resumed on the ground and in the air at noon Saturday.
The Ohio Valley Search and Rescue brought three dog teams to aid 21
searchers combing through the Logan Township area on foot and on ATVs,
Saturday, said Madison Seib, public information officer for the Pike
County Office of Emergency Management.
In addition, "the emergency management agency's deputy director has
gone up in airplane at least twice for aerial search of area," she said.
Seib said Saturday night that searchers are concerned the boy may
have left the area, five miles north of Oakland City and west of Indiana
57, where they have concentrated their efforts.
She said the child was believed to have had either food or water with him, and searchers are concerned for his safety.
The search will continue today if the boy has not been found, Seib said.
Miller is described as being 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing 80 pounds with hazel eyes and short blonde hair.
He was wearing a black T-shirt, blue denim shorts and tennis shoes
when last seen, Friday, in a wooded area near County Road 450 West and
Division Street.
The boy has reportedly been sighted several times since the search
began Thursday in the fields and woods not far from his home near
Knight's Chapel Church.
"He was hiding from people whenever they'd seen him," Pike County Sheriff Jeremy Britton said on Friday.
Miller has run away from home several times before, including once
earlier this year, but this is the longest time he's been missing,
according to Deputy Michael Willis.
Miller's parents began the search Thursday morning, Seib said.
Searchers have included members of the Pike County sheriff's office,
emergency management and Community Emergency Response teams; the Patoka
and Union township fire departments; and the Winslow Volunteer Fire
Department, Seib said.
The Pike County Sheriff's Department advises anyone who sees Miller
or learns of his whereabouts to call (812) 354-6024 or dial 911.

Re: JOSH MILLER - 12 yo - Oatsville/ Pike County (NE of Evansville) IN
OATSVILLE — The search for Josh Miller, a 12 year old Pike County
boy who disappeared from his home, entered its sixth day Tuesday,
as volunteers made north to south and south to north search parties
that met in the middle, hoping to flush the boy out of hiding and
into safety.According to Maddison Seib, Emergency Management Agency
Administrator, the Harrison County Sheriff Horse Patrol Search and
Rescue volunteered with seven horses in order to cover more ground
quickly, especially the ground too difficult to be covered on foot
thanks to brambles, bushes and difficult terrain.Gibson County Sheriff’s Office assisted the search with their K-9
unit Saturday, and Oakland City Fire Department has sent volunteers
to the scene. Seib said the K-9 unit initially had a trail, but it
faded out, and rains Saturday night made it unlikely that the trail
could be picked up again.Family members have joined the search every day, said Seib, and
friends are involved.“They’re extremely concerned. We’ve been in constant communication
throughout the search,” she said. One friend is Jonathan Kroeger, who goes to school with Miller and
had the locker next to him during the last school year. The boy
searched for him Tuesday with his father Dave Kroeger. The classmate said, after exiting the part of the grid he’d been
assigned, that the work was difficult, hot and muddy. He pointed to
his shoes as evidence, caked in mud.His father said the work was only a little physically challenging,
but he was glad to contribute. “Since he’s my boy’s age, and
they’re in the same grade, it hit close to home. If it was my boy,
I’d want the help.”While there were a few false sightings Tuesday, Seib said the last
sighting of Miller was Saturday in a cornfield five miles from his
home, where a cousin sighted the boy but was unable to catch him
before he disappeared into the woods.Because the boy was unaccompanied, the police are treating it as a
runaway situation, not an abduction, and are establishing a
perimeter in case he is flushed out of the woods, she said.About 20 people showed up to volunteer Monday and again Tuesday.
The search is running day and night, with headquarters located at
Knights Chapel Church in Oatsville. Area residents are encouraged
to check buildings where the boy may be taking shelter. In the
barns, trailers and deerstands around the last known sighting,
volunteers are tacking up fliers that tell Miller to let them know
he is okay.Volunteers are using ATVs in the search, and are attempting to
cover as much ground as possible. The boy has run away several times, but his longest previous
disappearance was 24 hours, Seib said Monday.Twenty volunteers searched the Logan Township woods, barns and
outbuildings Monday morning, and area residents were asked to check
buildings on their properties.Seib said there are several dangers for Miller at this point, as
there is no reason to believe he took any food or water with
him.Seib said they have no idea why the boy left, but that all family
members are taking part in the search, and police are very hopeful
he will be found.Miller is blonde, 5’4”, weighs 80 pounds, and has a small
build. He was wearing a black t-shirt, dark blue jean shorts, and tennis
shoes at the time of his disappearance. The search area is five miles north of Oakland City and west of
Ind. 57.Volunteers who want to assist in the search should call Seib at
812-459-0196. People with all-terrain vehicles and utility vehicles
are especially needed, she said.

FBI helicopter joins search for missing boy
Friday, July 1st, 8:50 am
The search continues for 12-year-old Josh Miller. The boy left
his home on June 23 and has not returned. Authorities believe he may be
hiding in the area.
An FBI helicopter was brought in Thursday to asset in the search
area. The helicopter, equipped with infrared equipment, found no sign of
the boy.
Officials fear that such a large presence for search parties is
pushing Josh further into hiding. Therefore, there has been a change in
the look of the operations.
Several dozen volunteers and law
enforcement officers have been searching a wide area but haven't found
the boy, who has been known to run away before.
A relative last spotted Josh in a field on Saturday.
District Ten Administrator Maddison Seib says
neighbors have reported food missing from their homes, so they believe
he is in the area.

Thanks to our special guest who is really taking a special interest in helping us out by monitoring cases. Why not join and be a recognized member?
12-year-old Josh Miller of Pike County was found safe today after he had
been missing for more than a week. According to the Pike County
Sheriff, Miller was found hiding underneath his home. Miller's parents
called Pike County Dispatch around 3:00 and reported hearing noises
under their house. Search crews arrived shortly after and found Miller.
The
Pike County EMA, Ohio Valley Search and Rescue and the Indiana
Department of Homeland Security all assisted in the search. Those who
helped look for miller say they are relieved he has been found safe.
Indiana
Department of Homeland Security District 10 P.I.O. Chris Richardson
says, "Its a very happy moment to know that he's okay. He's safe. He's
in the right hands right now and he's going to be evaluated and go from
there and be able to live his life on a day to day basic."
That evaluation is being performed at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. Officials say the evaluation is just a precaution.

Re: JOSH MILLER - 12 yo - Oatsville/ Pike County (NE of Evansville) IN
A massive search for a missing boy was called off - after he was found hiding under his own home for nine days.Josh Miller, 12, even sneaked back into his house to get food and a change of clothing while his parents were out.He
had also listened in as dozens of volunteers assembled outside his home
to begin round the clock searches of nearby scrubland. A FBI helicopter with an heat
seeking camera and more than 100 volunteers had searched for Miller
after he was reported missing from his home in Oatsville, Indiana on
June 23rd.Volunteer police from 12 counties took part in the search that also included dog units, horses and all terrain vehicles.Police set up a 24 hour command post and sightings of the boy as far away as New Jersey were looked into. The youngster was eventually found after his parents Dan and Sabrina heard a noise coming from a crawl space under their home.Sheriff
Jeremy Britton said the boy appeared to be in good condition, but he
was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation as a precaution.'He was dirty and had not had a bath for nine days,' the sheriff said.'He had some insect bites and ticks on him, but I think overall for nine days, he looked pretty good.'Miller
was not immediately returned to his parents as child services launched
an investigation. It is the fourth time he has runaway from home.Sheriff Britton said the boy did not have an explanation for running away from home and eluding searchers. He
said Miller had obtained food from the family home during the nine days
when no one was home and changed some clothing during the period.'We’re obviously relieved this is the way it turned out,' Britton said. 'We spent a lot of time and resources trying to find him. We’ll continue our investigation into reasons he ran away.'
