The mother of a young girl found abandoned at a North Side Chuck E. Cheese restaurant late Saturday has contacted police.
The girl, who answered to the name of "Kayla" and looks to be
approximately 2-years-old, was found at the Chuck E. Cheese at 1830 W.
Fullerton Ave. about 10:30 p.m., according to an alert from the Belmont
Area Special Victims Unit. There may have been a misunderstanding between the
girl’s aunt and her mother about who the child would go home with,
police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez said. The mother
apparently thought the girl was going to sleep over at the aunt’s
house, Perez said. It wasn’t immediately clear which of the two women
were at the Chuck E. Cheese with the girl. The girl’s mother
reached out to police after the girl’s aunt contacted her when she saw
coverage about the girl being found, Perez said. The girl,
who could not provide any information other than her first name to
police officers, was turned over to the custody of the Illinois
Department of Children and Family Services after police found her.The
Illinois Department of Children and Family services was investigating
as of Sunday morning, said department spokesman Jimmie Whitlow. No charges have been filed, Perez said.

Wow!!
We think it's safe to say that Chuck E. Cheese needs to be SHUT DOWN!!
WTF is going on with this "kid-friendly" restaurant?
Was it cursed by some evil witch doctor who didn't have enough tickets to get the Nerf gun??
A mother of a TWO YEAR OLD girl LEFT her child at a Chicago Chuck E. Cheese Saturday night after assuming that the child's aunt would be taking her home.
Apparently both the mom and the aunt thought the kid was going to spend the night with the other.
Are you SERIOUS? We understand there are mix-ups sometimes, but a TWO YEAR OLD??
Really?? A two year old??
To further ensure that this woman gets mother of the year, she
didn't even realize her child was missing until the aunt saw the kid's
picture on the internet the NEXT MORNING and called her sister to
inform her that they had left the toddler overnight at the restaurant.
So completely, completely effed up.
The girl is currently in the custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, which we think is the exact spot she needs to be for now until they figure this mess out.
Chuck E. Cheese is of course refusing to speak about the incident.
Cut your losses now, guys, you can't handle ANY MORE bad press.

Re: Unidentified Toddler "Kayla" - 2 yo - Chicago/North side IL
A 2-year-old girl was returned to her father Monday after she was left behind by family members at a Chuck E. Cheese's Pizza restaurant on Chicago's North Side over the weekend, authorities said.Chicago
police said they won't pursue criminal charges against the child's
mother after concluding a misunderstanding led to the girl's
abandonment at the children's restaurant at 1830 W. Fullerton Ave.
Restaurant workers found her alone and called police at about 10:30
p.m. Saturday. The Illinois Department of Children and Family
Services said the girl was returned to her father after spending two
days in its care, said spokesman Jimmie Whitelow. DCFS continues to
investigate the incident, he said.Police said the
misunderstanding resulted after both the girl's mother and an aunt
believed the other would take the girl home. About 30 people took part
in the gathering. It wasn't until Sunday morning when the girl's
aunt saw a news Web site displaying a photo of the child and saying
that she had been left behind. Belmont Area police had released an
alert earlier that morning to news media asking for the public's help
in identifying the parents of the girl wearing pastel barrettes in her
braided hair. The aunt telephoned the girl's mother to let her
know the child had been forgotten at the restaurant. The mother called
police, police said. "It was a misunderstanding," said Chicago police
News Affairs Officer Michael Fitzpatrick.DCFS had no contact with the family before this weekend's incident, Whitelow said.If
a child is found alone at a Chuck E. Cheese's, staffers walk the
youngster around the restaurant in hopes of finding relatives, said
Brenda Holloway, a restaurant spokeswoman. If that doesn't work,
employees call police, she said."All family members don't coordinate as well as they could," she said.Last
year, a similar story unfolded in Fort Worth, Texas, when a 2-year-old
was left at a Chuck E. Cheese's. The girl's aunt had taken her to the
restaurant for a birthday party, and another aunt was supposed to take
her home, authorities said. No charges were filed. But in
December, a 34-year-old woman was charged with endangering the welfare
of a child after a 4-year-old was left unattended at a Chuck E.
Cheese's in Pennsylvania for 50 minutes, Susquehanna Township police
said.
