Pittsburgh police Sgt. Larry Scirotto on Monday said 22-year-old Belinda
Boswell will be charged with interfering with the custody of a child in
the disappearance of 3-year-old Eyairra Collins.
Police say Boswell was a family friend caring for the child for an
extended period of time. But the girl's family called police Friday
after Boswell began avoiding their phone calls.
Investigators say Boswell dropped off the girl to police in Albemarle,
N.C., about 45 miles east of Charlotte, on Sunday. The girl is still in
the custody of North Carolina child welfare officials.

Re: EYAIRRA COLLINS - 3 yo - Pittsburgh PA/Charlotte NC
A toddler reported missing and later located nearly 500 miles from
home had been with a family friend for nearly one month before the
child's grandmother contacted police, authorities said Monday.
Eyairra Collins, 3, was dropped off at her babysitter's home in
Pittsburgh on March 8, according to investigators.
Pittsburgh Police Detective Victoria Mohney said her agency was first
contacted about the missing toddler last Friday.
The babysitter, Belinda Boswell, was caring for the girl as the
child's mother overcame some personal issues, according to the toddler's
grandmother.
Belinda Collins said that she called police after
becoming suspicious of the babysitter and an apparent lack of concern
when she questioned the child's mother about Eyairra's whereabouts.
"You waited too long when you knew this girl was playing you around,"
Collins said she told her daughter.
The child's mother, Mohannahas Collins, could not be reached Monday.
A friend of Boswell's saw a TV news report and encouraged the
babysitter to contact police, authorities said.
Boswell, 22, brought the child to the Albemarle Police Department at 2
a.m. Sunday and was questioned by investigators, Police Chief Ronnie
Michael said.
The child was unharmed and appeared to be well groomed, according to
detectives.
Boswell was later released because Pittsburgh Police had not charged
her with a crime at that time, Michael said.
The N.C. Department of Social Services had custody of the child
Monday evening.
A court hearing was scheduled for Wednesday in Pittsburgh, and
Collins said she planned to ask a judge to grant her custody of her
granddaughter.
Meanwhile, Pittsburgh Police were preparing a warrant for Boswell's
arrest on a charge of interfering with the custody of a child, a felony.
Boswell's whereabouts were unclear Monday, although Michael said the
woman told his investigators she intended to return to Pittsburgh.

A babysitter who allegedly took a Pittsburgh toddler to North
Carolina without permission surrendered to authorities yesterday.
Attorney Michael Worgul said he accompanied Belinda Boswell, 23, of
East Liberty to Pittsburgh Municipal Court, where she turned herself in
to police. She was arraigned Sunday night on a single count of
interference with the custody of a child, a third-degree felony. She was
released on unsecured bond.
Magisterial District Judge Kim Marie Hoots ordered Boswell to have no
contact with the child or her family. A woman answering Boswell's cell
phone last night declined comment.
Authorities say Boswell was babysitting 3-year-old Eyairra Collins
and took the child to Albermarle, N.C., without permission of the
youngster's mother, Mohannahas Collins, also of East Liberty.
The girl was dropped off at Boswell's home on March 8. The mother
became sick and was hospitalized for 10 days, relatives said. Collins
told police she made regular contact with Boswell on her cell phone and
asked her several times to return the child, to no avail.
On April 2, Boswell agreed to transfer custody of the girl in
Bridgeville, but that didn't happen, according to the criminal
complaint. The next day, Boswell called police and agreed to return the
girl that afternoon, the complaint said. Again, she did not show up.
The complaint said police obtained Boswell's cell phone records and
found that it had been used near Albermarle, N.C. Police called her
phone and Boswell said she was staying in that town, and she promised to
make arrangements to return the child.
During one phone conversation between police and Boswell, a man
accompanying her became argumentative with a detective and said Boswell
was the child's biological mother, according to the complaint.
After police released information about the missing child to media in
Pittsburgh and Charlotte, N.C., .Boswell turned the child over to
police in North Carolina on April 4.
The child remains in North Carolina, in the care of the North
Carolina division of Social Services.
