NOKOMIS, FL. - A 4-month-old baby boy
in Nokomis has been run over by his father and killed in an early
morning accident.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, the incident
happened around 2:45am Friday during an apparent argument between the
infant's parents. Authorities say so far it appears it's a tragic
accident.
Authorities believe Roderick Kroot and Thida Sou got into an argument
at a home in the Bay Point neighborhood. "The father of the child was
trying to leave the residence and backing out. At some point, the
infant child was near the vehicle and was backed over," says Lt. Chris
Miller of the Florida Highway Patrol.
4-month-old Cameron Kroot died at Venice Regional Medical Center
after his parents frantically drove him there.
Neighbor Daniel Fearns can't believe the news. He says he waves to
the family from time to time. He says he's never heard an argument or
anything out of the ordinary at the home. "I think it's a terrible,
terrible thing. I feel sorry for the poor guy and the wife. This is
very bad…very bad."
The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office and Florida Highway Patrol
continue their investigation into how the baby ended up behind the
vehicle. "Charges are pending completion of the investigation. I can't
speculate as to what will happen at this time. It does not appear
there is any foul play or any intentional acts that resulted in the
death of the child. This appears to be a tragic accident that occurred
at the family residence," says Lt. Miller.
Neighbors say they recently heard Kroot lost his job. Now, a much
bigger loss. "I feel so sorry for the both of them over this. It's one
thing when your child is dead, it's another when you are the one who
killed it."

i am guessing during the domestic disturbance, at 2:45AM in the morning, the idiot mother set the baby down behind the car - so she could continue the argument - someone had to put the baby in the path of the car - and i don't think dad did it. not this time. JMHO

Sarasota County woman charged in son's death
May 28, 2010 - 4:10 PM
A Nokomis woman has been charged with child neglect with great harm in the April death of her infant son, authorities said Friday.
Thida Sou, 39, turned herself in Thursday night and is being held at the Sarasota County Jail, sheriff's spokeswoman Wendy Rose said. Sou's first court appearance was scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday.
Deputies said 4-month-old Cameron Kroot died after being run over by a car driven by his father, Roderick Kroot, following an hours-long dispute April 9 between Roderick Kroot and Sou, who lived together.
According to investigators:
Sou attacked Kroot with at least four knives at their home. As Kroot tried to escape to the garage, Sou followed him with a steak knife in her right hand and their son in her left arm. Kroot wrestled the knife away, threw it in a tool box and tried to get in the car. Sou, still holding her son, then went after Kroot with a sledgehammer.
When Kroot got in the car, Sou tried prying open the door with a crow bar. As she raised her arm, the child fell to the ground and was run over by the front tire.
Kroot took his son to a hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.
Sou's attorney, Darren Finebloom, said deputies originally charged Sou with manslaughter but the Sarasota County State Attorney's Office later decided to reduce it to child neglect.
"They knew she was remorseful, there was nothing intentional in this case," he said.
Finebloom said with the investigation his client "hasn't even had time to grieve."
Sou waived her right to appear before a judge, who agreed to release Sou on her own recognizance late today without requiring she post bail.

I agree! That woman is dangerous and deserves more than probation! Sounds like she has a bad temper and will probably lose it again. She attached her husband with knives, a sledgehammer and a crowbar with her baby in her arms. I'm shocked she only got probation!
