"Infant Jane" JOHNSTON - 9 months - Santa Cruz CA

Santa Cruz CA ---- A man
accused of throwing his infant daughter out of the window of a car and
onto Highway 9 will stand trial for a long list of felony child abuse
and domestic violence charges, according to the District Attorney's
Office.Erik Rebert Johnston, 23, was driving the car home with
the 9-month-old girl and a 22-month-old girl, and the girls' mother when
he got angry just before 8 p.m. on April 1, the D.A.'s Office reported.He
pulled off Highway 9, then allegedly grabbed the 9-month-old girl by
the arm and tossed her out of the car. She flew more than 20 feet,
landed on the pavement and skidded into the middle of the road.She
suffered road rash and cuts to her stomach, sides and legs. She also
cut her tongue when she landed, the D.A.'s Office reported.The
girl's mother ran after the girl, but then got back in the car with the
baby when Johnston ordered her to. They drove home, but then Johnston
allegedly punched the girls' mother in the head and elbowed her in the
eye while the woman held the injured baby, according to the D.A.'s
Office. Johnston also allegedly threatened to kill the mother if she
reported the abuse.Someone who witnessed a portion of the alleged
abuse called the Sheriff's Office.Johnston was arrested the
morning of April 2 at a home on the 200 block of Cresta Drive in Boulder
Creek, County Jail record showed. He remains in custody.Johnston
was convicted of domestic violence in 2009.
Details of that case were not
released.He has pleaded not guilty to domestic battery, child
endangerment causing injury, false imprisonment, assault, dissuading a
witness and criminal threats — all felonies — as well as a misdemeanor
violation of a criminal protective order.Johnston is due back in
court later this month to set a trial date
