FERNDALE (WATE) - An 11-year-old Ferndale girl was pronounced dead at
a hospital this past weekend after she was found unresponsive in a
closet, and the community wonders what happened.
The girl's name hasn't been released.
Emergency crews responded to the home in Bell County after the girl's
grandmother found her not breathing on Saturday.
Kentucky State Police won't release details yet about how the girl
died.
"So many things are left unanswered right now. Until we can complete
this investigation, it puts people to speculate what's going on and
making up ideas of their own. The best thing is, we'll investigate and
come up with the answer when it's all over with," says Trooper Walt
Meachum.
School officials confirm the girl attended Bell Central School. The
principal says she was bright with a great personality.
She was also an honor student who was a member of the student
technology leadership group.
The principal says the girl planned to participate in a talent show
next week, and there were no signs of trouble.
Community members and students have been asking if the girl was a
victim of bullying, but school officials say there are no signs of that.
Police say they'll investigate every possibility.
For now, everyone in the tight knit Ferndale community is trying to
cope with the tragedy.
"Any time you deal with something happening to a child it hits close
to home, especially if you have your own children. It affects
everybody," Trooper Meachum says.
The girl's father is a soldier who was serving in Iraq when he heard
the news. He got home late Tuesday night.
The parents are making funeral arrangements.
6 News contacted the families through school officials, but they say
they're still too shaken up to talk about what happened.http://www.wate.com/global/story.asp?s=12392393

HI,
I
saw your story and wondered if the final autopsy results were in - I
can't
seem to find any follow up - was the death ruled an accident or
homicide
or is there no ruling yet? I am an Admin at

I'm a family member.
She was bullied. The teachers were aware. The prinicipal was aware; we were all aware, and she gave up asking for help. She couldn't take it anymore, and killed herself.

I was bullied in school more than once, I know it's hard. Those people in charge should be fired. The school
should be sued big time. That's just unacceptable that they knew and did nothing. They should have protected
that little girl not ignored the problems.
