Greenville SC ---- Christopher
Wilson pleaded guilty to a charge of homicide by child abuse Monday
morning in Greenville.
Wilson was sentenced to 25 years, with no chance of parole.
He spoke to the court and said he was "sorry" and that he "panicked"
when this happened. Wilson added
he "would live with it for the rest of his life."
Wilson told the judge he made a “stupid
mistake”. He also claimed that he never reported the child missing
because Javeion’s mother told him “not to call
the police, that he would be arrested.”
He apologized to the family, and said he would have to live with it
for the rest of his life.
"I'm sorry and if I could take it back I would," he said.
Leila Sullivan, Wilson’s aunt, spoke in court saying Chris lost both his mother and
grandmother when he was very young, and had no one to raise him. She
believes he was traumatized from those experiences, and needed
professional help. She calls him a “good, caring person.”
The victim’s family members were there, including Reginald Mayes,
who Javeion is named after. When the child was born, he was believed to be the biological
father. Mayes says he believes “justice was served” and that Wilson “knew
what he was doing.”
Greenville Police said Christopher Wilson murdered 4-year-old Javeion Mayes,
stuffed his body in a trash bag, and then hid it to cover the crime.
The child's disappearance launched a massive search
back in August 2007. Volunteers looked for hours, but a group later
found Javeion dead in a Kudzu field just 500 yards from the home where he was staying on Hollywood Circle in Greenville.
Christopher Wilson was charged with child neglect and homicide by child abuse.
Wilson was later charged in an unrelated case for assault and battery with intent
to kill and assault on a correctional facility employee, after an
incident at the Greenville County Detention Center.
