Oregon City OR ---- The trial for an Oregon
City man accused of stuffing a 3-year-old boy into a kitchen-sized
freezer is under way, and the boy's mother said she plans to testify
against the suspect.Oregon City police said 23-year-old Derek
Piskorski began dating the child's mother about six months before his
arrest in January. In addition to everyday abuse, Piskorski is
accused of pouring scalding water over the child's neck, shoulders and
back of his head, causing severe burns, according to a police spokesman."He
was giving him a bath and he put my son's head under the water faucet,"
said Katey Scheurman, the child's mother.Investigators said the
abuse happened between December 2009 and January 2010. Dr. Susan
Omura, an emergency room physician who treated the boy for his injuries,
said the child showed numerous injuries from abuse. She said it was one
of the most severe cases of child abuse she's ever seen."Bruises
on his upper arms and thighs and numerous bruises on his back and
bottom," Omura said.Scheurman, 25, pleaded guilty last month to
two counts of criminal mistreatment for failure to intervene in the
abuse Piskorski was allegedly inflicting on her son. She said the abuse
allegations are true."He thought it was funny," Scheurman said
of the incident in which her son was stuffed into a freezer. "He giggled
about it. Made it a whole joke."
When asked why she didn't step in and stop the alleged abuse, Scheurman
said it was because of her love for Piskorski."I was stupid and I
was in love," she said. "I just didn't know how to protect myself and
my son."Scheurman was sentenced to 180 days in jail, three years
probation and ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation. She plans
to testify against Piskorski.Piskorski remains held at the
Clackamas County Jail on charges of assault, criminal mistreatment and
reckless endangerment. His trial began Tuesday and his fate will be
determined by a judge rather than a jury.

There we have it. Selfish, self absorbed and only cares about herself. I desperately hope that her pathetic sentence of 180 days in jail and 3 years probation includes mandatory sterilization or I would stake my life on it that she will breed and neglect children again.

An Oregon City man was found guilty of assault
in what a doctor called the most severe case of child abuse she's ever
seen.Clackamas Circuit Court Judge Ronald found 23-year-old Derek
Piskorski guilty of scalding a 3-year-old with hot water and holding
the boy's hand to a heater. He was also found guilty of criminal
mistreatment and reckless endangerment. Piskorski was found not guilty
in an allegation he stuffed the child into an operating freezer. In
court Friday, the judge slapped the defendant's belt against a bench to
show how he believes Piskorski beat the boy.Oregon City police

Omura, an emergency room physician who treated the boy for his

this week, prosecutors showed graphic pictures of the abuse, which
happened between December 2009 and January 2010, according to
investigators.The boy's mother, 25-year-old Katey Scheurman,
pleaded guilty in April to two counts of criminal mistreatment for

"I just didn't know how to protect myself and my son."The
victim's great uncle said he's relieved the trials is over and hopes
Piskorski is handed a hefty sentence."As much time as he possibly
can get. My personal opinion is he should never walk the streets again,
but that's not possible," said Bill Robinson.Other family
members were also abhorred by the abuse."It's just horrendous,"
said Sue Robinson. "When I first saw him in the hospital, he was
unrecognizable, he was so swollen."Piskorski will be sentenced
May 13. Prosecutors said he could face seven to eight years in prison.
