Gunnison CO ---- Court records show, a man accused of killing his 1-year-old
son, was charged with child abuse 11 days before the boy's death.The
court records reported by The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel Wednesday
show that Gunnison County Sheriff's deputies responded to a domestic
violence call on April 6 that resulted in the arrest of 29-year-old
Edward Geavanni Cox. Authorities found the body of Cox's son at his home
April 17 and say that Cox is responsible for his death.The
details of the boy's injuries have not been released.Cox is being
held without bail on investigation of first-degree murder and child
abuse resulting in death. He was arrested this week.

If this loser had been charged with child abuse why was he even anywhere near the child? This is just plain ignorance, and we wonder why the children are being killed--somebody dropped the ball on this and should be charged also. I don't care who it is, if they knew a child was being abused and let the abuser back around the child then they are just as guilty. Wake up America and grow a back-bone, this should not be happening.

Man draws 40 years in baby’s death

Christian Wentz, 1, bled to death after a blow lacerated his liver last April. His father was originally charged with first-degree murder and other offenses.

Gunnison Combined Court records show Cox, 29, tendered an Alford plea on Friday to child abuse resulting in death, a class-2 felony.Although not an admission of guilt, an Alford plea acknowledges there are facts that could result in a conviction. Courts treat Alford pleas the same as guilty pleas.

“Even though the final sentence calls for a lengthy prison sentence, Mr. Cox felt that, given the state of the evidence and the judge’s legal ruling, it was in his interest to take the plea offer,” said public defender Harvey Palefsky.
