JADEN HULSE - 2 Weeks - Mt Vernon (N of Seattle) WA
A "medically fragile" baby taken by his mother from Skagit
Valley Hospital early Wednesday morning is safe at a hospital in Idaho.
Mount Vernon police, who had been concerned about the welfare of the
2-week-old baby, said they received a call from Mercy Medical Center in
Nampa, Idaho, at about 7:20 Wednesday evening. Hospital officials told
police that baby Jaden had been brought into their facility to receive
care.
Police said the baby was brought in by the mother's sister.
Investigators are working with hospital officials, law enforcement
and child protective services in Nampa to ensure Jaden receives the
medical care he needs, according to a news release from Mount Vernon
police.
Baby Jaden's mother took him from the Mount Vernon hospital at 5:12
a.m. Wednesday, according to Kari Ranten, the hospital's marketing
director. Ranten said the newborn was in need of "immediate medical
attention."
Police identified the mother as Nicole Hulse, 25, who gave birth to
the baby boy 17 days ago.
According to Ranten, Hulse and her husband entered the hospital's
nursery and cut off the baby's ankle bracelet, setting off an alarm. A
half dozen hospital staff, including nurses, urged them not to take the
child and protested as they fled in a car. The staff noted the license
plate.
The baby had been in the hospital since he was born.
Shannon Haigh, police spokeswoman, said the baby was fragile possibly
because of drug withdrawal, and that's what led to the concern.
Police did not issue an Amber Alert because the baby had not been
kidnapped.
"We're not sure a crime has been committed," Haigh said Wednesday
afternoon. "The biological mom took the baby. We need to investigate to
see if the baby is in danger."

Mount Vernon police say the mother of a 17-day-old baby, who took the medically fragile infant from Skagit Valley Hospital early Wednesday morning against medical advice, has been arrested in Idaho on suspicion of writing a bad check.
Nicole Hulse is in Canyon County Jail in Caldwell, Idaho, according to Lt. Chris Cammock of the Mount Vernon Police Department.
On Wednesday morning, Hulse, 24, took her newborn son, Jaden, from the hospital, despite the efforts of medical professionals to convince her that the baby needed to stay.
By late Wednesday, according to Cammock, Hulse's sister had brought baby Jaden to a hospital in Idaho.
The infant -- and Hulse's 2-year-old daughter -- have been placed into Idaho state custody pending a hearing.

Fragile baby taken by mom brought to Nampa hospital
..."There was an excess of 20 staff around the car trying to convince them not to leave," said Skagit Valley Hospital CEO Gregg Davison.
The couple left with the baby. It's not known if the man is the baby's father.
Police say they have been speaking with the man and with the Hulse's relatives.
"It's too difficult to do it through distances, through phones and through radio and everything else, so just come forward, bring the baby in, let's get some help for it and then let's talk about what's going on," said Lt. Chris Cammock, Mount Vernon Police Dept.
