PINELLAS PARK — A couple were arrested Tuesday on charges of child
neglect, accused by police of failing to get a badly injured baby girl
the medical care she needed. But who abused the 1-month-old in the
first place? Pinellas Park detectives are still trying to figure that
out."They're not able to prove at this point who caused the
injuries to the child," said Sgt. Brian Unmisig. "What they could prove
was that they failed to render aid to the child for three days."Facing
one count each of felony child neglect are: Robert Alexander Truby, 35,
who was being held Wednesday in the Pinellas County jail in lieu of
$10,000 bail; and Roseann Cassandra Glover, 23, who was being held in
lieu of $2,000 bail. The infant and her relationship to the couple
were not identified in police reports. The couple were the baby's
caregivers when she was taken to All Children's Hospital in St.
Petersburg on April 2.There it was learned that the infant
suffered multiple rib fractures, two broken ankles, a left femur broken
at the knee and a fractured right tibia, police said. In fact, the
infant's cracked ribs were in "different stages of healing," police
reports stated. That, and the other injuries suffered by a
1-month-old "are highly indicative of child abuse," according to police.Glover
told police the baby was injured after accidentally falling to the
ground. She also said that she knew the infant's ribs felt "funny" but
still waited a few days to take her to a hospital.Truby told
police he slept in the same bed as the infant even though he suffers
from frequent seizures for which he does not take medication, according
to his arrest report.Neither suspect could explain the infant's
injuries, police said. The baby is in the care of a relative and is
doing better, they said.Truby is a felon whose criminal record
dates back to 1994, according to records. He was released from prison in
2008 after serving a six-year sentence for robbery with a weapon.He
also faces recent charges of domestic battery and petty theft from a
May 3 arrest. According to Largo police reports, Truby punched Glover
and stole $60 from her purse.
