The McDOWELL-JENNINGS Children - 4 and 2 yo - Marietta GA

Cobb County police said Tuesday that they are investigating a severe,
and nearly deadly, case of child abuse. A Marietta mother was jailed
and charged with child abuse. Investigators said the children's father
is on the run. Cobb County police said a 2-year-old boy was taken
to WellStar Cobb Hospital by his mother Monday afternoon. Police
said the child was suffering from substantial external and internal
injuries. The child was immediately flown by air ambulance to Children's
Healthcare of Atlanta where he was admitted for treatment. Police
conducted an investigation and located a 4-year-old female child at the
family's residence. Investigators said the girl was also suffering from
injuries and had past injuries. The girl was taken to WellStar
Cobb Hospital and released to the Department of Family and Children
Services. Investigators arrested the children's mother,
26-year-old Shannon Nicole McDowell of Marietta. McDowell was
taken to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center were she is currently
being held without bond. McDowell was charged with Cruelty to Children
in the 1st Degree, Cruelty to Children in the 2nd Degree, Contributing
to the Deprivation of a Minor and Making False Statements. Detectives
have also secured warrants for the biological father identified as
29-year-old Damon Earl Jennings. Those warrants include Cruelty to
Children in the 1st Degree and Cruelty to Children in the 2nd Degree.
Jennings is still at large and caution should used if he is approached.
