"Toddler Jane" JACKSON - 2 yo - Erlanger (OH border) KY
Erlanger KY ---- A Kentucky man is
charged with abuse after a 2-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital
with a blood alcohol level of nearly three times the legal limit.Police
said Raymond Jackson slipped gin into his stepdaughter's favorite drink."She was pretty much almost in a coma. She was
not responsive at all," the girl's mother Amanda Jackson said.Amanda
Jackson said she works nights at a nursing home and her husband watches
the girl and the couple's 6-month-old son.Amanda Jackson said on
Friday night, she went to give her daughter when she got home from work
and realized something was wrong."Friday night I got off work,
went in there, checked on her, nothing. Rubbed her cheek, rubbed her
face, tried shaking her arms, nothing. Her eyes were rolled in the back
of her head, her breathing was real shallow. Yeah, it terrified me,"
Amanda Jackson said. The toddler was rushed to the emergency room
where doctors had trouble reviving her.Amanda Jackson said her
husband told her that the girl had been sneaking drinks from his glass
-- a glass containing iced tea and gin. "I told the hospital
workers that. They said they were going to get a blood alcohol level on
her. It was 0.259," Amanda Jackson said.Doctors said if the
toddler had weighed 100 pounds, her 0.259 BAC would equal seven gin and
ice tea drinks. The girl weighs only 29 pounds. It was clear to her
mother and police that she did not sneak a few sips.Investigators
said Raymond Jackson told them he put gin in her favorite drink, sweet
tea, and encouraged the girl to drink it"Any adult in their right
mind would not let a 2-year-old drink alcohol. I think that's enough to
where I could have lost my little girl and I'm done," Amanda Jackson
said.Raymond Jackson has a past misdemeanor conviction for child
abuse in North Carolina involving the girl. She also had a broken
leg and some other injuries last month -- those injuries are now also
under investigation as potential child abuse.

A 2-year-old Crescent Springs girl who was given
alcohol by her step-father also had fractured ribs. That's what
prosecutors told a judge this afternoon at 23-year-old Raymond Jackson's
preliminary hearing. Jackson is already charged with giving the girl
enough gin to make her blood alcohol level of .250, more than three
times the legal limit for adults. Prosecutors say the girl's fractures
are healing and they are trying to determine when the injuries occurred
so they can decide whether to file additional charges. A Kenton
County Judge ordered the case against Jackson bound over to a grand
jury. Police say Jackson mixed the gin with sweet tea and
encouraged the girl to drink the mixture. Her mother, Amanda Jackson
took the toddler to the hospital when she returned from work to find the
child unresponsive May 22nd. Raymond Jackson remains jailed and
is ordered to have no contact with the child.

"Toddler Jane" JACKSON - 2 yo - Erlanger (OH border) KY
A 23-year-old man accused of getting his 2-year-old stepdaughter drunk
already has been convicted of abusing the child in another state,
prosecutors said Tuesday.
Raymond Jackson was arrested May 22 after his wife came home from
work to find the toddler passed out at the couple’s Crescent Springs
apartment.
Erlanger police charged Jackson with first-degree
criminal abuse, a felony punishable by five to 10 years in prison.
Jackson,
a former Marine, was convicted in North Carolina of abusing the girl,
Commonwealth’s attorney Rob Sanders said during a preliminary hearing in
Kenton District Court on Tuesday.Jackson was convicted in March
2009 of child abuse in Onslow County, N.C., according to North Carolina
Department of Corrections records. The abuse occurred in January 2009
when the girl would have been just 15 months old, according to the
record. Jackson is on probation for the misdemeanor offense.
“We
think in this case we’re starting to see a pattern,” Sanders said.
Prosecutors have requested the records from the previous abuse case and
“when those come in we’ll know more just exactly about what happened in
North Carolina,” he said.Police are still investigating the most
recent incident to determine whether the toddler will have any long-term
problems from the .259 blood-alcohol level that doctors found when she
was taken to St. Elizabeth Edgewood. She was later treated at Cincinnati
Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
Police also are
investigating several rib fractures doctors discovered, he said. The
fractures had started to heal.
“All of this hopefully will come
to one trial at the end,” Sanders said.Erlanger Police Detective
Kimberly Klare testified Tuesday that Jackson was watching the girl
while her mother was at work when he encouraged the toddler to drink a
mixture of gin and iced tea.
The toddler first starting drinking
the mixture while Jackson went to the bathroom, she said. Jackson told
police he came out to find the girl with his cup, then encouraged the
girl to drink from the cup “assuming that it would teach her not to,”
Klare said.
Jackson said the toddler then took three more sips,
Klare said. He also told police he left the cup on the table when he
went to check on his 6-month-old son in another room. When he caught the
girl with the cup again, he told police he gave the toddler a “time
out.”
The girl’s mother took her to the hospital after she came
home from work, and could not wake the girl when she went in to check on
her. Doctors told police the girl was suffering from alcohol poisoning
and was borderline comatose when brought in, Klare said.
Kenton
District Judge Ann Ruttle ruled that there was probable cause to send
the case to a grand jury.
Jackson’s public defender, Ava Hager,
asked Ruttle to lower his $10,000 cash bond. Jackson was a former
Marine, and could live with his mother and stepfather, Hager said.
Sanders
countered that Jackson was less-than-honorably discharged from the
Marines and was a flight risk. Ruttle did not lower the bond and Jackson
remains in the Kenton County jail.
After his arrest, Jackson’s
wife, Amanda Jackson, was granted emergency custody of the children,
according to court records. A restraining order has been issued. If
Jackson posts bail, he is to have no contact with his wife or the
children.
