SARAH BRASSE - 8 yo (2009) - Schertz (NE of San Antonio) TX
Schertz TX ---- (From February 2009) A father and his fiancée are arrested
and charged Wednesday in the death of his 8-year-old daughter. Police
say the couple did not get medical attention for the child when she
became seriously ill.
The man and woman both claim they did
nothing but police in Schertz say the little girl had been sick for days
had not eaten and had not been given any medicine before she died
Thursday. David Brasse and Samantha Britain are in custody charged with
criminally negligent homicide.
Britain remarked that, "Just that my heart is breaking. That's all."
Both claim they are good parents. Brasse, who works as an EMT, says he had
no idea his daughter, Sarah, was so sick.
In an interview David Brasse said, "I love my daughter so much. Please help me. Somebody
help me."
Police say it was Samantha who called 911 from the
family's house on Thursday when Sarah was unresponsive.
Schertz police detective Jonathan Patrick says, "EMS and police went to the
scene and found this 8-year-old little girl was already showing signs of
rigor mortis, was light blue, and cold to the touch."
Sarah was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. Hospital
staff estimates the child had been dead at least two hours.
Investigators say the parents did not care for Sarah or her two siblings
instead it was Sarah’s 10-year-old brother who was in charge.
Family members say there's no way David would hurt Sarah.
Sarah's uncle, Chris Brasse, says "He is being unjustly accused of murdering his
daughter, and it's not true. It's causing more grief. He can't put Sarah to rest."
Police also say one of Sarah’s brothers had to be
taken to the hospital for something that may have to do with parental
neglect. So, additional charges could be filed against the couple who
are in the Guadalupe County Jail.

The grandmother of an 8-year-old girl who died of appendicitis said
Thursday that the girl's death was an accident and not due to
negligence.Claire Brasse is disputing police claims that her son,
David Brasse, and his fiancé, Samantha Britain, failed to get medical
attention for David Brasse's daughter, Sarah Brasse. On Feb. 5,
police responded to a 911 call at the Brasse home and found Sarah
unresponsive, said Detective Jonathan Patrick of the Schertz Police
Department."When we got to the scene, it was apparent that the
girl had been deceased for a while," Patrick said. "She was blue, cold
to the touch, and rigor mortis was already setting in."Northwest
Methodist Hospital doctors pronounced Sarah dead 40 minutes later.Detectives
claimed that David Brasse and Britain failed to seek medical attention
for Sarah. Britain, who stayed home to watch the children, didn't take
Sarah's temperature and relied on the girl's 10-year-old brother to
monitor her progress. The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office
ruled that if Sarah had seen a doctor, she probably would have lived."The
common parent, the reasonable person, could have deducted that need of
care was there," Patrick said. "This should have never happened."But
Claire Brasse argued that Sarah just had a stomach bug."She was
put down for a nap. Anybody would put a sick child down for a nap. Her
brother covered her up, made her nice and comfy," she said.David

"It's so filthy and disgusting, we can't even say it on TV," said
Senator Carlos Uresti of District 19.
Uresti's speaking about a recent case of child abuse in Guadalupe
County. "There's no reason why anyone in their right mind wouldn't have
removed these kids," he said.
It's the worst case of child abuse Uresti says he's seen in years,
and he feels that eight-year-old Sarah Brasse would be alive today had a
caseworker done her job and used better judgment.
In 2009, Brasse was found dead from an infected appendix in her
father's care. Senator Uresti pointed to reports dating back to 2007
that detail abuse and neglect that were dismissed. "You read this and
you wonder, How in the world does a caseworker not remove these
children?" he asked.
The girl's father, who is accused of
criminally negligent homicide, is turning to Facebook to tell his side
of the story.
Uresti says as a result of the case, he's calling for more prevention
at Child Protective Services.

A Guadalupe County man indicted on charges of injury to a child stood in court Wednesday.David Brasse denies the allegations. His 8-year-old daughter ,Sarah, had an infected appendix. Sarah had been sick for days, and was even sent home from school. Last February, Sarah was found dead in her bed at the family home in Schertz. Authorities say Brasse neglected to give his daughter the necessary medical care.Child Protective Services had investigated the family just two years prior to Sarah's death. If convicted, Brasse faces five to 99 years in prison. No trial date has been set.
