Bunker Hill WV ---- Whoever killed a young West Virginia mother and
her toddler apparently spared the life of the woman's newborn baby. The
seven-week-old infant was found unharmed about 200 feet from the scene
of a fire that consumed the bodies of the mother and the toddler.
The
violence occurred late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. At 4:25
a.m., firefighters were summoned to a burning building in rural Bunker
Hill, West Virginia. Angela Devonshire, her two children and a male
friend she had been seeing recently, had gone to that building around 9
p.m. to watch a movie. The friend is Antonio Prophet, whom family
members said appeared to be a regular guy. "He acted like a nice
person who had his life together," said Elizabeth Devonshire, Angela's
mother. Because no bodies were initially found at the scene of
the fire, the Devonshire family had some hope. Some family members began
looking around the family's land, thinking that all four people in the
second story apartment that burned had possibly escaped. At 6:10
a.m., they found Angela's seven-week-old infant son -- unharmed -- lying
on a patio chair on the back patio of the main family residence. The
baby was apparently uninjured, however, there appeared to be blood on
his shirt. Then firefighters found Angela's body and the remains
of her three-year-old son at the fire scene. Charging documents say
Angela's throat had been cut. Police say the cause of death for her son,
Andre White, cannot be determined because of extensive burns. A
two-count murder warrant has been issued for Antonio Prophet, who
described himself as a "published author." In fact, his book, "Enter The
Fire: Seven Days In The Life" was self-published. Police say
Prophet was staying with a cousin in Martinsburg. That's where he met
Angela Devonshire. Investigators are uncertain where Prophet was living
earlier. Some addresses list his home in D.C., others list various
locations in Northern Virginia. The U.S. Marshal's Service had
joined in the manhunt. Elizabeth Devonshire hopes anyone who
knows of the whereabouts of Antonio Prophet will call police. "You
may be saving your grandchild or your child," explained Elizabeth. "I
just want him off the street. I want him caught." Noting that
Antonio Prophet has a long criminal history and is now facing a
double-murder charge, the Sheriff's Office in Berkeley County, West
Virginia, suggests that anyone who spots Prophet call 911 to alert the
nearest police department.

A mother and her 3-year-old child were found in the ashes of a fire
that destroyed their home, and police say it was no accident.
The fire and apparent murders happened in Gerrardstown, West Virginia, but
police are hunting for a Fairfax County man who was dating the woman.
Deputies believe 34-year-old Antonio Prophet
killed 22-year-old Angela Devonshire, a woman he'd been dating for only
two weeks, and her 3-year-old son, and then set fire to their house.
"I wonder what happened down there," said Elizabeth Devonshire. "I am
hoping one didn't see the other being injured."
Devonshire's mother is beyond devastated. According to Prophet's business card, he
is the author of "Enter the Fire: Seven Days in the Life", a story about
a drug kingpin who avenges his family.
"If I had know that was the title of his book, I would've told my daughter to get
away from him," Devonshire said.
Devonshire's family awoke to sounds of fire engines on their property about 4:45 a.m. Sunday.
"I ran down and everything was on fire," Devonshire recalled.
According to the arrest warrant, investigators believe Prophet slit Devonshire's throat and then
set the fire. It isn't known if her 3-year-old died from smoke inhalation or other injuries.
Angela Devonshire's family built a garage home for her on their property so she could be
close and raise her children. Her 3-year-was killed but there is another
child, a 6-week-old boy, whose life was spared.
Investigators told a judge they have information that Prophet later admitted to an
acquaintance that he killed Devonshire and her son because she owed him
money. His address is listed in Lorton, and a massive manhunt is underway.
"I would say he's out of our area and
most likely he's gone back to where he knows people and has contacts,"
said Berkely County Sheriff Kenny Lemaster.
And authorities say that takes their search straight to Northern Virginia.

Re: ANDRE WHITE - 3 yo - and his Mother, ANGELA (2010) - Bunker Hill (nr border of MD and PA) WV
Court records show a Virginia man already
charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 22-year-old West
Virginia woman is now charged with killing her 3-year-old son.
Antonio Prophet, 34, of Lorton, Va., was arrested last week in
Charlotte, N.C., after being featured on “America’s Most Wanted.” The
bodies of Angela Devonshire and her son, Andre White, were found in the
garage of their burned-out Gerrardstown apartment June.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department delayed charging Prophet in
the child’s death until the prosecutor could review the case. An arrest
warrant issued last week charges him with felony murder.
Investigators believe both victims were killed before the fire was
set.

WV Murder Victim's Father To Speak At Death Penalty Hearing
BUNKER HILL, WV - A Bunker Hill father, who lost his 22 year old daughter and 3 year old grandson when they were murdered last year, will be part of a public hearing in the West Virginia capitol this month.
Father and grandfather to murder victims Angela Devonshire and André White, Sidney Devonshire, will put a face to a proposal by West Virginia Delegate aimed at bringing back the death penalty in West Virginia.
Devonshire and Delegate John Overington, (R) -WV District 55, will make their case for re-instituting capital punishment in West Virginia to members of the state house on February 15th.
"Its a small step for us right now, but I'm hoping that somebody there will at least listen to us, hear our cry for justice for the people of West Virginia," says Devonshire.
Devonshire won't go to Charleston alone, he's bringing family and friends of other murder victims from the Eastern Panhandle with him.
The group will include friends and family of Kathy Sharpe who was murdered last summer by her ex-boyfriend and the parents of Jessica Newell who was murdered in 1997 by her uncle.
"I will be going up with Sidney, with the Devonshires, and hopefully we will have a large group of us going," says Paula Roll, Kathy Sharpe's friend, "Kathy's family is going to go."
"I'm going to go down and I'm going to tell them about this dear little baby here and I'm going to tell them I don't like taking care of this prisoner, this murderer, I don't like it," says Deborah Newell, Jessica Newell's mother, "Something needs to be done about this and something needs to be done now. There is too much murdering going on."
The hearing will be the first of its kind in more than 20 years.
Delegate Overington has introduced the legislation annually, but is usually met with opposition until now.
"Personally I would like to see it brought back," says Pamela Games-Neely, Berkeley County Prosecutor, "This would be a tool for a prosecutor arsenal that we don't have right now."
And even if the bill doesn't move forward, Devonshire plans to continue his support for bringing back the death penalty.
Back in 1965, the death penalty was abolished in West Virginia, but 35 other states still use capital punishment in sentencing convicted criminals.

Man pleads not guilty in W.Va. murder, arson case
February 28, 2011
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Virginia man who was indicted last month on two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree arson in the deaths of a Berkeley County woman and her young son pleaded not guilty Monday to the charges in circuit court, according to court records.
In an arraignment hearing, Antonio Prophet, 34, of Lorton, Va., said “yes, sir” when asked by presiding 23rd Judicial Circuit Judge Christopher C. Wilkes if he agreed to waive his right to a trial in the February term of court. Wilkes scheduled Prophet’s trial for Aug. 29.
Prophet is charged in the deaths of Angela Kay Devonshire, 22, and Andre White, 3, of 69 Sidneys Way, Bunker Hill, W.Va.
Defense attorneys B. Craig Manford and Christopher J. Prezioso were appointed by the court to handle the case.
Prophet is accused of slitting the woman’s throat in her apartment off Sam Mason Road on June 6 and then leaving the residence after setting it on fire, court records said.

Trial for Va. man charged in deaths of woman, child rescheduled
7:53 p.m. EDT, July 18, 2011
MARTINSBURG, W.Va.— The trial for a Virginia man charged in the June 2010 deaths of a Berkeley County woman and her young son was rescheduled Monday by 23rd Judicial Circuit Judge Christopher C. Wilkes.
Antonio Prophet, 35, of Lorton, Va., is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree arson in the deaths of Angela Kay Devonshire, 22, and Andre White, 3, of Bunker Hill, W.Va.
Wilkes scheduled the trial for Feb. 7 after weighing the possibility of needing more time for forensic analysis and Berkeley County Prosecuting Attorney Pamela Games-Neely’s busy trial schedule.
Defense attorney B. Craig Manford told Wilkes that the defense team might want to have some additional forensic testing performed in the case in response to the judge’s question as to whether the ongoing proceeding is “forensic heavy.”
Manford also noted that co-counsel S. Andrew Arnold is scheduled to be “out of town” toward the end of the year.
Games-Neely did not object, citing ongoing exchange of discovery in the case.
Earlier this month, Arnold replaced Christopher Prezioso, who was forced to withdraw due to a conflict of interest involving another case, according to court documents.
In his brief court appearance, Prophet, who was being held in Potomac Highlands Regional Jail in Augusta, W.Va., told Wilkes that he waived his right to a speedy trial.
Several friends and family members of the victims, including Angela Devonshire’s father, Sidney Devonshire, attended Monday’s hearing.
Prophet is accused of slitting Angela Devonshire’s throat in her apartment off Sam Mason Road on June 6 and then leaving the residence after setting it on fire, court records show.
The fire originated in the living room of the residence, and it appeared that both victims fell through the floor of the garage apartment as it burned, court records show.
Prophet fled the area afterward, but was captured June 17, 2010, outside a homeless shelter in Charlotte, N.C., authorities said.
Prophet, who has aliases of Antonio McCreary and James Carter, was indicted in February 2011 on two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree arson.
He was being held without bond.
