The Leesburg Police Department, working in concert with the Fairfax
County Police Department, is asking the public's help in locating a
missing Heritage High School student.

Monday June 7, 17-year-old
Joan Lee Ly failed to report for class at Heritage High School in
Leesburg. Ly reportedly was last known to be with Diem Kieu Vo, a friend
from Fairfax County. Although this information cannot be verified,
several sources have stated that the girls traveled to New York via a
bus and left their cell phones behind.
Ly is described as an
Asian female, 5'11" and weighing 180 lbs. She is goes by the nickname
"Frost". Vo is described as an Asian female, 17 years of age and goes by
the nickname "Melissa".

Two teen girls still missing after more than six weeks

Two teenage girls who went missing about six weeks ago still are at large, according to both the Fairfax County and Leesburg police departments.

Diem Kieu Vo, of Springfield and Joan Ly, of Leesburg, both 17, went missing June 6.

Police in both jurisdictions continue to search for the girls, but media coverage of their case initially might have been overshadowed by a similar search for Tiffany Ghani, 16, and Tram Hoang, 15, who went missing June 18 from Ghani's father's apartment in the 1600 block of International Drive in the Tysons Corner area. It was later determined those girls acted on their own. They were found safe in South Carolina and were returned to their parents.

But Vo and Ly remain missing.

"There seemed to be a lot of focus on the Ghani and Hoang case because their actions seemed so out of character according to their parents," Fairfax County police spokesman Don Gotthardt said. "And there was a witness account of a strange car involved, so abduction was being considered as a possibility."

Gotthardt said that although efforts to locate Vo and Ly remain active, "there is no reason to believe they were abducted."

Chris Jones, spokesman for the Leesburg Police Department, said Ly did not show up for school at Heritage High School in Leesburg on June 7, even though she had finals.

Jones said it was later determined Ly was "willingly transported" from Leesburg on June 6. "She was last seen around 1 p.m. in the 8000 block of Heller Road in Lorton that day," he said.

Gotthardt said that the same day, Vo took a taxi from her home on Colorado Springs Drive in Springfield and got out at the Franconia-Springfield Metro station around 4 p.m.

Jones said that although it has not been verified, several sources have stated the girls traveled to New York via bus, leaving their cell phones and identifications behind.

Joan Lee Ly is described as an Asian female, 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds. She goes by the nickname of "Frost." Diem Kieu Vo also is an Asian female. Vo, 5-foot-5 and 135 pounds, goes by the nickname of "Melissa." Police urge anyone with information to contact the Leesburg police at 703-771-4500, or Fairfax County police at 703-691-2131.
