Re: CARLOS ANGEL VILLEGAS III - 3 yo - Olathe (SW of KC) KS
Olathe police say that they have located a man who was
identified as a person of interest in a murder investigation after a
3-year-old boy who was suspected to be with the man was dropped off at a
Kansas City, Missouri, homeless shelter.
Officers said 3-year-old Carlos Angel Villegas III was dropped off at
Restart Transitional Living in Kansas City, Mo. on Wednesday morning.
Officials believe he may have been with Maurice O. Stewart, a person of
interest in Tuesday's homicide. Stewart and his girlfriend stayed in the
room next to the victim on Monday. Stewart's girlfriend, Stephanie
Laguna, was arrested on Wednesday morning for aiding a person committing
a felony.
"Whoever dropped the child off knew someone who was staying here," said
Sgt. Joy Colmar of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department.
Police won't say for certain that Stewart dropped the boy off at the
shelter, but they do say that they know where Stewart is.
"We have located the person of interest in this investigation, he has
been contacted by the police department and we are no longer actively
searching for him," said Sgt. Johnny Roland of the Olathe Police
Department.
Steven Cook, 57, was found dead inside the Econolodge near Harrison and
Old 56 highway, in Olathe, on Tuesday.
The victim's employer was concerned when he didn't hear from the victim
so he called the Econolodge hotel on Tuesday to check on the victim. The
hotel manager went to the victim's room and found him dead inside the
room lying in pool of blood. According to the manager, Cook had reported
his laptop stolen on Monday, but he doesn't know if his murder has
anything to do with that.
The manager on duty said it's unusual to have something like this happen
at the Olathe hotel.
"Olathe is such a nice place," said Robert Trussell, hotel manager. "to
have something like this happen in a bad thing."
Police would not say if Stewart is in custody, or what specifically led
them to him. So far, no charges have been filed for Cook's murder.
