REEDSBURG, Wis. (AP)
- Sauk County sheriff's deputies were looking Thursday for an
8-year-old boy.

The sheriff's department says Joseph Anderson's
father reported him missing around 9 p.m. Wednesday. Dispatcher Randy
Huelsemann (HUHLS'-man) says he was last seen about 3 p.m. when he went
outside alone to play in the Town of Reedsburg.

Huelsemann says about 20 officials were searching
the area Thursday, including a nearby wooded area.

He says he has no history of wandering away and
his parents have no idea what could have happened. He says they've had
several reports from citizens who may have seen someone resembling him.

Anderson was wearing a red short sleeve shirt and
red shorts with black stripes. He is described as roughly 4 foot tall
with light brown hair and very friendly.http://www.wqow.com/Global/story.asp?S=12742131

Multiple agencies are taking part in the
search for 8-year-old Joseph Anderson of Reedsburg, including the Civil
Air Patrol, Reedsburg Fire Department, Baraboo Fire Department and Sauk
County Sheriff's Department.

REEDSBURG - Sauk County sheriff's deputies are being assisted by
dozens of emergency responders in their ongoing search for an
8-year-old Reedsburg boy.

Joseph Anderson was reported missing by his parents at 9 p.m.
Wednesday night. He was last seen at about 3 p.m. wearing a red
T-shirt and red shorts with black stripes. He is four feet, four
inches tall, weighs 54 pounds and has light brown hair.

Investigators on Thursday afternoon closed Junction Road, which
runs east and west just south of the subdivision where the boy
lives.

According to neighbors, Daniel Anderson, the boy's father, informed
them the boy was missing about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Salina Cahill,
the Andersons' next-door neighbor, said she and her husband have
searched for the boy on their property and the surrounding wooded
area.

"It's sad," she said, choking up. "Praying - that's all I can do
now."

Cahill described the Andersons, who have four children, as a "great
family" with "attentive parents." She said she did not see any
suspicious vehicles enter the secluded neighborhood off Hwy. 136
Wednesday afternoon.

Sauk County Chief Deputy Chip Meister said in a press conference
Thursday morning that authorities have no reason to believe the
boy's disappearance is an abduction, which is why authorities had
not issued an Amber Alert. An "endangered missing person" alert was
issued Thursday afternoon.

"From the information we're being told now, we don't believe there
is foul play," Meister said from the county's mobile command center
located at Trinity Baptist Church on Golf Course Road. "He just ran
out of the house."

County officials were being assisted by a representative from the
Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation, who was at the
scene. Shortly before noon, he ordered reporters to leave the
parking lot at which the command center was located.

More than 80 emergency responders from Reedsburg, Baraboo and the
Civil Air Patrol, which conducted an aerial search, have been
combing a five-mile radius around the Anderson home.

The aerial search was hampered by the terrain of the area, which
includes many trees, the Baraboo River and swampland.

People willing to volunteer should go to Trinity Baptist Church to
assist in the search for young Joseph.

Anyone with information about Joseph's disappearance should call
the Sauk County Sheriff's Department at 608-355-4495.

Sauk Co. officials say they located the body of
8-year-old Joey Anderson, who went missing two days ago. The child's
body was found in the Baraboo River about 8:10 a.m. Friday. The Sauk
County dive team found him about a mile or two west of the boy's home.

Joey Anderson was last seen about 3 p.m. when he went outside
alone to play in the Town of Reedsburg.

The state Department of
Justice issued a statewide endangered missing persons alert Thursday
that went to police across Wisconsin as well as hospitals, shopping
malls and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Officials say they have not yet
determined the cause of death. They are assisting the family at this
time and also wanted to thank all of the volunteers who helped in the
search for the missing boy.

The body of 8-year-old Joseph Anderson, who was reported missing
Wednesday night, was found early Friday in the Baraboo River.

The body was found by the Sauk County Dive Team about a mile
from the boy's town of Reedsburg home; a specific location was not
given, although Sauk County Chief Deputy Chip Meister said it was
in an area already searched west of the property.

Meister said that an investigation will be conducted to
determine the cause of death, but that foul play has been ruled
out
.

"From the information we're being told now, we don't believe
there is foul play," Meister said from the county's mobile command
center at Trinity Baptist Church on Golf Course Road. "He just ran
out of the house."

Anderson was reported missing by his father, Daniel, at 9 p.m.
Wednesday. He had last been seen six hours earlier.

The sheriff's department was helped by dozens of emergency
response agencies from the county and state, including the
Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation, which issued an
endangered missing person alert Thursday afternoon.

Fixed-wing aircraft, including a Blackhawk helicopter from the
U.S. military with thermal imaging devices, were used late Thursday
evening in an attempt to locate Joseph. Their operation, which
consisted of combing a five-mile radius from the home, was
unsuccessful.

Meister said the rough terrain - the river, swampland and
patches of thick forest foliage - made the aerial and ground
searches difficult. To cover such a large area, about 300 people
were involved in the search, including an estimated 200
volunteers.

The Andersons' neighbor, Salina Cahill, described them as a
"great family" with four children and "attentive parents."

The autopsy of 8-year-old Joseph Anderson of rural Reedsburg has
found evidence of an accidental drowning and no indication of foul
play, the coroner says.

During an interview from her home Monday evening, Sauk County
Coroner Betty Hinze said the post-mortem examination of Anderson's
body was completed Friday. After she receives some final reports
from the pathologist she expects to file an official finding the
boy's death was an accident.

"There was some trauma, but we don't know if it was from his
entry into the water or what it was," Hinze said. "He wasn't beat
up. He didn't suffer any foul play or any trauma like that."

The boy's father reported him missing late Wednesday evening
from their home south of the city of Reedsburg, said Sauk County
Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Richard "Chip" Meister during a
press conference Friday afternoon. Sheriff's deputies and members
of police, fire and ambulance agencies helped in the initial
search.

Wednesday and Thursday officers followed up on reports of
possible sightings of the child including one from as far as 15
miles away, he said.

Anderson had an obsessive compulsive disorder that involved a
strong desire to be near water, Meister said. Because of that,
officers on Thursday made their first search along the Baraboo
River in a canoe.

Meister said in addition to emergency services personnel from
around Sauk County, Wisconsin state agencies and even federal
marshals, more than 200 community volunteers turned out to
search.

"I haven't seen this size of volunteer effort, it's pretty
impressive," he said. "When you see this many people that don't
even know the family come out, it's very indicative of the people
in our community."

About 8:10 a.m. Friday morning a search team found the child's
body in the Baraboo River about a mile to a mile-and-a-half
southwest of his parents' home, Meister said. It was an area that
was being searched a second time.

The team was about to put divers in the water when a search team
member in a canoe spotted Anderson's body and they were able to
recover him, Meister said.

"They spotted an article of clothing and that led to Joseph," he
said.

Meister said Anderson wandered off from his home and at some
point got into the water. It is possible with the currents in the
river he might have fallen in upstream and then floated downstream
to where he was found, Meister told reporters.

The funeral for Joseph Anderson will be Thursday at
11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Reedsburg.
