The AMBER Alert for the 7 month old child taken in Tennessee yesterday has been canceled.
The child was recovered safely late Monday evening in Miami, Florida after he was
taken to the home of the paternal grandmother.
All indications are that the child was unharmed during the incident.
Authorities are still searching for the suspect.
The investigation grabbed the attention of locals
when one of the vehicles used in the alleged abduction was found
abandoned on I-26 in Newberry County this morning.
On Monday, The Newberry County Sheriff’s thanked the media for their cooperation
with the investigation.
“We are convinced that the coverage this investigation has received was an
important part of recovering the child quickly and safely,” the department said in a press release.

Re: DRAKE KINGSTON BOYD - 7 Months (2010) - Knoxville TN
A baby boy kidnapped by his own father in Tennessee was found in Northwest Miami-Dade
Monday afternoon, but authorities are still searching for his father.
Drake Boyd was found safe with relatives at a
family grocery store on the 5800 block of Northwest 22nd Avenue, but
the 7-month-old's father is still at large and being sought by local,
state and federal authorities.
David Jackson, 35, is suspected of
aggravated kidnapping, accused of snatching the baby from his mother in a
violent confrontation in Tennessee Sunday night.
After the assault, authorities say he stole the mother's car and drove the baby to south
Florida where his mother and sister live. An Amber Alert was issued Monday.
Jackson's mother, Nora Reynolds, insists the whole thing was a
misunderstanding and that Jackson simply wanted to spend time with his
son and had an agreement with his mother.
"He's crazy," Reynolds said.
"The mom gave him the baby for the day because he lives there too also,
and then he bring him down here must be to show off for his friend."
Relatives claim they found
out about the search for Drake through TV news reports and found him
with a babysitter. Family members insist they have no idea where Jackson is.
Authorities say Jackson has an extensive criminal history.
The stolen car was recovered in South Carolina.
The US Marshals and the FBI are now involved and are also looking for three females who may have
helped in this abduction.
"He should turn himself in," said Jackson's sister, Amanda Garcia. "It doesn't look good that, it's
like his father is the kidnapper to see his own child."

The mother of Amber Alert baby Drake Kingston Boyd flew to
Miami on Tuesday and was reunited with her son by Florida Department of
Children & Families officials who quickly gave the baby back to her.
Anne Luvenia Boyd, 29, of Kingsport, planned to return home
with her baby today, according to a family member, who remarked
that the seven-month-old boy "looks great."
At this time, federal kidnapping and carjacking charges
have been placed in Miami against one man and one woman in connection
with the alleged abduction of the baby boy Sunday afternoon.
Greene County Sheriff Steve Burns said this morning that
David Jackson, 35, of 8495 Asheville Hwy., is charged with carjacking in the abduction.
The baby is believed to be Jackson's biological son, and
federal kidnapping charges cannot be applied to a parent, the sheriff said.
Jackson and three women -- one of them now believed to be a
juvenile -- were involved in what has been alleged to be the violent
abduction of the child from his mother, Anne Boyd, when she tried to
pick up the child after he had spent the night at Jackson's home.
The four were captured at a motel near the home of
Jackson's mother, in Florida, where the baby was found unharmed.
Boyd's car was taken in the abduction but later found abandoned in Newberry. S.C.
Ann Rehn, who is Anne Boyd's grandmother, told The
Greeneville Sun this morning that Boyd traveled to Miami on Tuesday and
was met at the airport by Florida Department of Children & Families
officials who quickly gave the baby back to her.
Boyd planned to return to Kingsport with the baby today, Rehn said.
Rehn said Boyd told family members that the baby acts as if
nothing has happened that bothered him.
"He's a happy baby anyway," the child's great-grandmother said.
COURT APPEARANCE
Meanwhile, Jackson and a woman believed to be his
accomplice, Ashlea Melynda Laughlin, 21, of 22 Statler Park, Afton,
appeared before a federal magistrate judge in U.S. District Court in
Miami on Tuesday, Sheriff Burns said.
The magistrate issued a temporary order for pre-trial
detention, pending another hearing this Friday in Miami, the sheriff said.
Sheriff Burns said Jackson and Laughlin "are contesting
their identity and removal" from Florida. "Essentially, they're fighting extradition," he said.
A hearing on identity and removal from Miami is set for July 27, Burns said.
Brooke Collins Stumbo, 20, of 2920 Buckingham Road, was to
appear before a federal magistrate today.
Both Laughlin and Stumbo are charged with kidnapping under federal statutes.
A third female, who allegedly left Jackson's Asheville
Highway residence with him on Sunday after the abduction, has been
determined to be a juvenile and released into the custody of her parents, Burns said.
Her role in the abduction "is pending any further investigation," according to the sheriff.
Once the federal issues have been dealt with, Burns said he
expects Jackson, Laughlin and Stumbo to be transferred to U.S. District Court in Greeneville.
After the federal charges have been dealt with, Burns said
he plans to additionally charge all three with especially-aggravated
kidnapping under Tennessee law.

A federal grand jury has indicted three people connected to an Amber
Alert case that started when, according to
investigators, they took a 7-month-old child from his mother in
Greeneville earlier this month.
Jackson - Laughlin - Stumbo
Tuesday, the grand jury returned the two-count indictment for
carjacking and kidnapping charges against David Jackson, 35, of Miami,
Florida, Ashlea Melynda Laughlin, 21, of Greeneville, and Brooke Lashae

NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC (WIS) - A U.S. Federal Court jury in Greenville, Tennessee has convicted a Miami man of Carjacking and Interstate Transportation of a Stolen Car and now faces up to 25 years in prison and up to $500,000 in fines.
This case drew local attention after a AMBER alert was issued when David Jackson kidnapped his infant son during a carjacking in Tennessee. The vehicle was later found abandoned on I-26 in Newberry County on July 11, 2010, and processed by investigators with the Newberry County Sheriff's Office.
Jackson and his accomplices were later located in an a hotel in Miami Florida. The child was unharmed and returned to the mother.
During the trial, Sergeant Matt Bowers of the Newberry County Sheriff's Office appeared as a witness at the trial in Tennessee. In a letter dated March 17, U.S. States Attorney William Killian said of Bowers, "Sgt. Bowers conducted a thorough inventory of the vehicle which allowed us to prove the second count of interstate transportation of a motor vehicle."
Killian described Bowers and his testimony as professional in appearance and demeanor and a credit to the Sheriff's Office.
"This child was safely recovered in part because of the assistance your office provided and David Jackson was convicted because of the assistance of Detective Sgt. Matt Bowers provided our office," Killian wrote in concluding his letter.
Sheriff Lee Foster said that he was pleased that the Newberry County Sheriff's Office could play a part in safely returning a child to his mother after a violent kidnapping incident.
"We are pleased that the child was returned home safely and proud of Matt and all the officers who worked so hard on this case," said Foster.
"Sometimes we are all guilty of taking for granted those who serve our community, so it is nice to have a reminder of the dedicationof police officers and public safety workers who give of themselves every day!"
