A two-and-a-half year-old missing girl from
Bell County has been found safe with her alleged abductor in Georgia.
This is what FBI agents call a "friendly
abduction," where the missing child was kidnapped by a person known to
the family, in this case her babysitter.
34-year-old "Courtney Hernandez" was asked to
look after Addison Fowler, while Fowler's mother was moving to Killeen
from San Antonio in late June, according to the Temple Police Department.
Police say she met Hernandez in Temple with
the understanding that Addison Fowler be returned on July 2. However,
Hernandez never brought the child back.
Hernandez had also been allegedly telling
people the child belonged to her, and was possibly traveling out of
state with the child. The FBI and other federal agencies then began
assisting with the investigation.
From July 2 to July 10, Fowler's mother
attempted to get her daughter back on her own, and called Temple Police
after Hernandez did not show up to meet her again Saturday afternoon.
FBI spokesperson Eric Vasys of San Antonio
says Hernandez became increasingly uncooperative when the mother of the
child asked for her return. After more suspicious behavior, the mother
reported it to Temple police at 4:30p.m. Saturday.
Temple police alerted the FBI Sunday at 5
a.m. A state warrant for kidnapping was issued by Bell County, and just
before noon on Sunday, Hernandez was arrested by Columbia County
authorities in Georgia. She's currently at the Columbia County jail.
Sunday's FBI alert had people tracking
Hernandez in a 2006 4-door Hyundai Santa Fe with California license plates.
Addison Fowler is currently in custody of
child protective services in Georgia, and will be returned to her mother
as soon as possible.
Hernandez is expected to be charged Monday with federal kidnapping.

Re: ADDISON FOWLER - 2 yo - Killeen TX
Information provided by the Temple Police Department.
Yesterday at about 4:30 pm, Temple Police met a mother whom told
officers her two-year-old daughter had been kidnapped.
While moving from Killeen to San Antonio, in late June, the mother
entrusted her child to her friend, Courtney Elaine Hernandez (age 34, of
Teague, Texas), to care for her until the move was complete. The two
met in Temple, and the mother gave her child to Ms. Hernandez with the
understanding that she be returned on July 2nd. However, Ms. Hernandez
never brought the child back.
From July 2nd to yesterday, July 10th, the mother had been working by
herself to get her child back, and called Temple Police after the
suspect did not show up to meet her again yesterday afternoon.
Through the ensuing investigation, Detectives learned that Ms.
Hernandez had been allegedly telling people the child belonged to her,
and was possibly traveling out of state with the child. The FBI and
other Federal Agencies then began assisting with the investigation.
Just before noon, investigators gathered information that lead police
in Columbia County, Georgia to locate and arrest Ms. Hernandez. The
child was with her, and was apparently unharmed.
The child is in the process of being returned to her mother at this
time.
Ms. Hernandez is in custody in Georgia, and upon her return to
Central Texas, she faces kidnapping charges. After her arraignment, a
follow-up release will be distributed.
