A St. Louis man was convicted Wednesday of beating his
girlfriend's toddler to death last year while the boy's mother was
at work. Montrell Moore, 24, of the 2000 block of Destrehan Street,
faces life in prison with the possibility of parole after a St.
Louis jury found him guilty of second-degree murder, felony abuse
of a child and felony endangering the welfare of a child. Emergency
workers were called to the child's home in the 1900 block of
Mallinckrodt Street on June 27, 2009, to find Samar "Sam" Brown, 2,
unresponsive. He died at a hospital. An expert with the St. Louis
medical examiner's office testified this week that the boy had been
submerged in a hot liquid and suffered a scalding burn to his face.
He also had five broken ribs, two punctured lungs, a bruised heart,
lacerated liver, spleen and kidney. Moore is scheduled for
sentencing Sept. 10.
