PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- Today is the day Ronald Cummings and Crystal Sheffield planned to be celebrating their daughter's eighth birthday.

Instead, Sheffield will be on Reid Street in Palatka for a balloon release in honor of Haleigh Cummings, her daughter who remains the subject of a nationwide Amber Alert and who hasn't been seen since February 2009.

MORE: Nov. ail interview with Misty Croslin

Sheffield said she will release the balloons at 2:16 p.m. at the mini-storage facility at 1400 Reid St.

Haleigh, Sheffield said, was born at 2:16 a.m. on this day in 2003.

Haleigh Cummings went to bed in her home as her father's girlfriend, Misty Croslin, was watching her. She was not there the following morning.

Investigators have told the family they believe Haleigh is most likely dead, but Sheffield has maintained that her daughter is alive. The reward for information leading to Haleigh is over $30,000.

Croslin and Ronald Cummings are both in jail on drug charges. The search for Haleigh intensified most recently in April 2010, but turned up no new evidence.

HALEIGH CUMMINGS - 5 yo(2009) - Satsuma FL - Part II - Page 3 Empty Re: HALEIGH CUMMINGS - 5 yo(2009) - Satsuma FL - Part II

Post by TomTerrific0420 Thu Feb 09, 2012 1:35 pm

Three years ago today was the last time Haleigh Cummings was seen alive.

The disappearance of the Satsuma girl, then 5, stunned the county and created a frenzy to find out what happened to her. Yet the public, her family and authorities - who have labeled the case a homicide - have more questions than answers.

Capt. Dominic Piscitello has worked at the Putnam County Sheriff's Office for 19 years and has been overseeing the case since Haleigh was reported missing on Feb. 10, 2009.

As Piscitello looked recently at a line of framed photographs on his bookshelf, he expressed his frustrations.

"We're coming up on this dreadful day, dreadful for this family, because in our profession we are plunged into this thing with this little girl that we have nothing to do with," Piscitello said. "And it affects us personally, the fact that we haven't gotten her yet. It affects me personally because I have four kids and I get to see them. This family doesn't get to see her."

Detectives have explored every avenue, followed every lead and listened to every call from possible witnesses, he said.

Last year, they decided to start all over.

"We met in June or July and I put together a small task force of some investigators that were retired, cold case, or retired homicide that had been supervisors in pretty big agencies," Piscitello said. "They all flew into town and we met for about three weeks."

During that time, the six veteran investigators were brought up-to-speed on all the information and brought back to the very first phone call that she was missing.

"Let's look at this removing anybody as a potential suspect, let's remove everything away and go back," he said. "We went right back to the minute of the call and we sat together, everybody listened and took notes on what they were hearing, seeing, things happening. We interviewed people together and canvassed areas."

The team went over all the information and they will meet again within the next 30 days, he said.

Piscitello and the special task force came up with things they wanted to follow up on, check into and points that needed to be clarified.

"We're going to brainstorm a little more and see some new angles we want to approach the case at," he said. "The case is still alive and going. Any leads come in we pursue it. We had a picture of some little girl in a store someone thought might have been Haleigh. When we get things like that we go from there."

Piscitello said it was important to note they are still working the case.

A room at the sheriff's office in Palatka is packed with dozens of black binders holding information about Haleigh's case.

A whiteboard filled from top to bottom with notes leans up against a wall, with only a few boxes in the adjacent shelves from other homicide cases.

"We still haven't gotten to a point where we think this person is responsible, the family's responsible, these people are responsible, because we are looking at it with a whole different perspective, rather than just saying what everybody assumes is what's happening," Piscitello said.

"I think that's the only way to look at this, because when you get involved in a case when you're trying to find a little girl, you get focused on finding her or focused on an idea and sometimes you don't allow other things to get in there."

He added the team has a lot of information, but the frustrating part of it is that they've dealt with many people telling them things that weren't true, sources that just weren't credible.

"I think that kind of hurt me in the whole process," he said. "The fact that we had so many people tell us so many different stories and in these kind of cases it's important to try and find those people that you can count on and have some credibility and in this case, there hasn't been a lot of that."

Piscitello said no matter what, he wouldn't give up trying to find Cummings.

"Everyday I've got something on my desk of Haleigh, everyday we think about her and there is not a day that doesn't go by where I don't think about what can we do," he said. "Coming up on this day, the reality of this. As time goes you never heal but it is not as painful. But this day brings it all back again and refreshes it."

As far as speaking with Misty Croslin, who briefly was Haleigh's stepmother or Ronald Cummings, her father, who are both in prison on drug charges, Piscitello said he is always available to listen to them.

Croslin was babysitting at the home when Haleigh went missing.

"If Misty has something that she would want to tell us then by any means, she knows that I'm waiting in the wings for her to tell me anything that she thinks she has," he said. "Ronald too."

Piscitello said as cases similar to Haleigh's are reported across the nation, he inquires with law enforcement agencies to check for any connections.

"We are always looking for answers," he said. "Someone is out there that can give us that piece of information we're missing. That one piece we need to finish the puzzle."

Piscitello said in the beginning there were a lot of people calling in, trying to make a name for themselves and speculate on what happened.

"We don't really have that nowadays. We are not the child that's standing out right now," he said. "But we are still looking for anyone that has any information on what happened. We are not going to forget. We are not going to stop."

SATSUMA --
Friday marks three years since a 5-year-old girl disappeared from her Putnam County home in the middle of the night.

Haleigh Cummings was first reported missing on Feb. 10, 2009.

Deputies
quickly launched a massive search, but no sign of Haleigh ever
surfaced, and investigators have said they believe she is dead.

The
last person to see Haleigh alive was her father's then-girlfriend,
Misty Croslin, who was later briefly married to Ronald Cummings during
the search for his daughter.

Both Croslin and Ronald Cummings
were convicted in 2010 after the two were caught on video in an
undercover drug deal. Croslin was sentenced to 25 years in prison, while
Cummings agreed to a plea deal to cut his sentence to 15 years.

As
for what happened to Haleigh, investigators have said they believe the
people connected to the case, including Croslin and Haleigh's father,
have not told everything they know about what happened.

No one, however, has been formally charged in the girl's mysterious disappearance.

BOMBSHELL: Joe Overstreet’s Aunt Vickie Unloads Shocker!

June 24, 2012
by RADIO

Today, possibly speaking without thinking, possibly blurting out something she had held inside for along time, Joe Overstreet’s Aunt Vickie disclosed [to a trusted source of this blog] Joe had raped her granddaughter when she was 4 years old! Now, 13, the granddaughter’s mother and her never, ever go around Joe Overstreet.

Now we know Joe Overstreet raped a child the age of 4 nine years ago… Joe would have been 14 years of age at the time of the sexual assault. A young violent kid who possibly never gave up the desire for sexual contact with a very young female child.

Joe was protected from prosecution, even though police were called – the attorney hired by Joe’s mother informed her sister, Vickie Sullivan, the granddaughter would have to take the stand and testify, promising the attorney would “tear her up”…

Did the Cummings family pay a price for an Overstreet family unwilling to deal with a child predator of their own?

Where is Haleigh Cummings?

Haleigh Cummings' father moved to Brevard County jail for court hearing

Posted: June 25, 2012 - 12:12pm
Updated: June 25, 2012 - 2:38pm
By Dan Scanlan

Ronald Cummings, father of a 5-year-old girl who remains missing three years after her disappearance from his Satsuma home, got a weekend out of prison less than a year into his 15-year sentence for drug dealing.

But the only reason Haleigh Cummings' father left the state's Santa Rosa Correctional Institution in Milton on Friday is because he was picked up by Brevard County officials for a court hearing there, according to Putnam County Sheriff's Office officials.

Someone started spreading the word over the weekend that Cummings had been released from prison, according to Deputy Hancel Woods, the Sheriff's Office spokesman. But Cummings is listed as "Out of Dept. Custody by Court Order" from the Santa Rosa facility on the Florida Department of Corrections website. And he was booked into the Brevard County Jail in Cocoa on Sunday.

"He's not running around loose," Woods said. "It was a hearing related to his child custody and parental rights and nothing to do with why he's in prison. That is why it says 'Custody by Court Order' on the Department of Corrections website."

Cummings, whose 5-year-old daughter disappeared in February 2009, was sentenced Sept. 24 to 15 years in prison for a string of drug deals selling prescription pills. The drug dealing was recorded in an undercover operation that also saw his former wife, Misty Croslin, and three others arrested. Croslin, then 17, was the last known person to see Cumming's daughter alive prior to her 2009 disappearance.

Croslin is currently serving a 25-year sentence for prescription drug-dealing sentence.

Suspect in Oregon burglaries asked about missing Florida girl

By Crystal Price KVAL News
Published: Jul 18, 2012 at 9:19 AM PDT

EUGENE, Ore. - Authorities have arrested one man in connection with a string of break-ins near the University of Oregon.

Eugene Police arrested Shawn Franklin Philbrick, 37, on two counts of First Degree Criminal Trespass.

One Hilyard Street resident's home was broken into on Sunday.

The UO student is still shaken up after hearing noises coming from downstairs.

"I peaked into my roommates room, expecting my roommate, and not expecting a stranger," the resident said. "I found the guy sort of hiding in her closet."

The stranger then tossed a question her way that she was not expecting to hear.

"He asked me if I was Haleigh Cummings and I said no," the resident said. "Then he asked me if I knew where she was."

The intruder said his name was Ronald Cummings and that he was searching for his daughter, Haleigh.

Those two names made national headlines in 2009.

Haleigh Cummings is a 5-year-old girl from Florida who disappeared that year.

The real Ronald Cummings is in prison in Florida.

Timothy Charles Holmseth is an investigative reporter and an author in Minnesota who has interviewed several people involved in the missing child case.

Holmseth wrote the book "In Re: Haleigh Cummings" in 2010.

The author remembers that Wayanne Kruger, a friend of the family, said that a group of Dead Heads had Haleigh.

"She said they were trying to get a story into the media about Haleigh being taken to Oregon," Holmseth said.

Since nothing was taken at any of the homes, Holmseth thinks the burglar could be someone who knows the real Haleigh Cummings.

"It sounds like somebody may have thought they were getting close to where she actually was and that he was actually going from house to house to house breaking in," Holmseth said. "Here we are three years later and a man comes out of a closet and says that. That's what's interesting about it."

Eugene Police are not investigating whether there is a connection to the break-ins and the missing child case out of Florida.

Vigil for Haleigh Cummings to be held Friday

1:39 PM, Aug 9, 2012

SATSUMA, Fla. -- This Friday, a vigil will be held for still missing Haleigh Cummings.

This year, the vigil will be held at the home of Annette Sykes, Haleigh's great grandmother.

The home is located at 302 Osceola Avenue, Satsuma.

The vigil is scheduled to take place at 6:30 p.m.

Friday marks three-and-a-half years since Haleigh disappeared.

Misty Croslin, the now ex-wife of Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings, was the last person to have seen Haleigh prior to her disappearance. Croslin claims to have gone to sleep that night and when she awoke, Haleigh was gone.

Both Croslin and Haleigh's father Ronald are currently serving prison time for drug trafficking charges. The two were sentenced in early 2011 after undercover investigators made several illegal prescription drug purchases.

Investigators with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office have announced publicly they believe Haleigh is dead, but her family still remains hopeful she will be found alive.

The reward for information leading to Haleigh Cummings' whereabouts is $30,000.

If you have any information regarding the case you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-277-TIPS.

Feds review the Haleigh Cummings investigation

2:12 AM, Aug 11, 2012
Written by Jessica Clark

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- As a pinwheel spun outside Haleigh Cummings' great grandmother's home in Satsuma, family and friends gathered inside for a candlelight vigil. They prayed for the little girl's safe return and encouraged each other.

"It's been a rough three-and-a-half years," Teresa Neves, Haleigh's grandmother said. "It's hard to know what to say or do."

Tears rolled down Neves' face.

It's been three and a half years since Haleigh vanished in the middle of the night. Investigators questioned her family and family friends, including her father and his girlfriend who was taking care of her the night she disappeared.

No one has been arrested for Haleigh's disappearance, and she has not been found.

"We never get any new news, any morsel of anything," Neves said.

First Coast News has learned that this past spring the Putnam County Sheriff's Office took Haleigh's case file to Washington where various federal agencies poured over every detail.

Hancel Woods with the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said, "We wanted to make sure we hadn't missed anything."

One of the groups that got Haleigh's case is the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit. You may know them through the CBS show "Criminal Minds" which is based on the unit.

"They bring expertise as far as looking at the case from a different angle. They look at behavior and why people do the things they do," Woods said.

But after weeks of federal review, Woods said the federal groups told the Putnam County Sheriff's Office that local investigators had conducted a thorough investigation of the Haleigh Cummings case.

"We were actually hoping for more," Woods commented, "We were hoping for a key clue or a break that would come out of [the federal review]."

He said local investigators did get advice from the feds on what to do next and that the case is still open.

For now, a family prays and wants more.

"We want answers. It's time for answers," Neves said. "Three and a half years is way past time for answers."

If you have any information about the case, call CrimeStoppers at 1-888-277-8477.

HaLeigh Cummings 9th Birthday Celebration With Tree Planting Event

Posted on August 14th, 2012
by Jan Barrett

HALEIGH CUMMINGS - 5 yo(2009) - Satsuma FL - Part II - Page 3 Haleigh-cummings

This coming Friday, August 17 is little HaLeigh Cummings 9th birthday and there will be a tree planting ceremony held in her honor at Browning Pearce School, where HaLeigh attended school.

HaLeigh disappeared from her father’s home on February 10, 2009 in the middle of the night. Misty Croslin, HaLeigh’s father’s then girlfriend, told the police that HaLeigh had been sleeping on a palette on the floor in the same bedroom as she and HaLeigh’s little brother, Junior. Misty claims she woke up during the night to go to the bathroom when she noticed the back door had been propped open and that is when she found HaLeigh was gone.

Although some say they are sure that HaLeigh is no longer with us on this earth, there are some left that can’t let go of their hope that she is still alive and out there somewhere and until she is found one way or another they will hang onto that hope and who can blame them? I know if it were my child or grandchild I would be the same way. In fact I do feel the same way in this case. Until she is found I will never give up the hope for a miracle, to see this precious child come home to a family that loves and misses her so much.

HALEIGH CUMMINGS - 5 yo(2009) - Satsuma FL - Part II - Page 3 Haleighs-first-day-of-school
Pictured above: HaLeigh’s first day of school at Browning Pearce Elementary.

So please read the following announcement for the tree planting ceremony planned for the 17th in honor of HaLeigh’s Birthday for the details:

This Friday, August 17, 2012 will be HaLeigh’s ninth birthday. There will be a ceremony at Browning Pearce School where we will plant a tree in honor of HaLeigh’s birthday and we would like to invite everyone to attend. HaLeigh attended Browning Pearce School in 2009 and she loved the school, her teachers and her friends so we feel this is the perfect place to remember HaLeigh’s 9th birthday.

In the past we have given away 300-600 balloons on HaLeigh’s birthday, to be released at 2:16, but this year government restrictions have made this an unattainable reality. Because we know there are people around the world who continue to release balloons at 2:16 on HaLeigh’s birthday and in keeping with the tradition and request of HaLeigh’s father, Ronald Cummings, we will release 9 balloons at 2:16.

As a reminder, in 2009, HaLeigh’s Closet was opened at Browning Pearce. HaLeigh’s Closet was meant to give those more fortunate the opportunity to help those children in school who are less fortunate. The closet is run solely on donations from the public. I have recently learned that HaLeigh’s Closet would be blessed to have some new donations so I would ask…

Anyone who has been blessed enough that you are willing to give from your heart… PLEASE donate school supplies to HaLeigh’s Closet and the children at Browning Pearce who can benefit from your donation.

I hope that you will all join with us as we plant HaLeigh’s tree at Browning Pearce Elementary School on August 17th. The ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. and conclude with the release of 9 balloons at 2:16 p.m.

We would encourage anyone who would like to donate to HaLeigh’s Closet to bring your gift with you when you come as there will be faculty and staff who will be happy to place these in HaLeigh’s Closet and distribute them to those children who are in need. ANY donation you would like to make would be greatly appreciated by those less fortunate at Browning Pearce and HaLeigh’s family.

Browning Pearce Elementary School is located at 100 Bear Blvd San Mateo, FL 32187. Please mark your calendars for this Friday and join us at 1:30 p.m.

Please understand, “HaLeigh’s Closet” was started in honor of HaLeigh in order to help school age children that are in need of school supplies. There are a lot of children that are less fortunate than some others so with your donations, it would help others without the needed supplies.

“HaLeigh’s Closet” accepts donations like these:

1. wide ruled paper
2. crayons
3. #2 leaded pencils
4. Colored pencils
5. backpacks for the older students

They even accept things like underwear for the little boys or girls that might have a little ‘accident’ that would need a change of clothing to keep from being sent home for the day. We all know how that can happen with small children. This would keep them from a huge embarrassment.

If you can possibly find it in your heart to donate something, I am sure it will be put to good use. Let’s make this birthday for HaLeigh a special one by helping children that really need these things to help them in school.

Don’t forget to wish HaLeigh a “Happy 9th Birthday” too. Where ever she is I know she would love it.

My prayers are still with you HaLeigh and your family as well. They miss you so much and will never give on finding you.

Happy Birthday sweetie!

Jan Barrett

Tree planted for Haleigh Cummings

Published: 8/18 1:28 am
Updated: 8/18 1:45 am

SATSUMA, Fla. -- People came together to celebrate what would've been Haleigh's ninth birthday today.

Family and friends released nine balloons, as requested by her jailed father, and planted a tree outside the classroom where she attended kindergarten.

Haleigh Cummings has been missing since February of 2009 while in the care of Misty Croslin. Croslin said she put Haleigh to bed and the girl vanished during the night. Haleigh was five years old then.

Croslin is now in jail on drug charges after marrying and divorcing Haleigh's father, Ronald Cummings. He is also in jail on drug charges.

Authorities have long said Misty has the keys to solving this missing child mystery. Haleigh has been declared dead by the sheriff's office but her body has not been found.

Her family is holding onto hope that she is still alive.

Haleigh Cummings: Age-progression photo released of missing girl

A photo of her as an 8-year-old was released by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children

An age-progression photo of what missing Florida girl Haleigh Cummings might look like today is being circulated on the fourth anniversary of her disappearance.

Family members will gather Sunday in rural Putnam County for a vigil for Haleigh, who was 5 when she vanished from her father's doublewide trailer in Satsuma sometime between Feb. 9 and Feb. 10, 2009

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children recently released a photo of Haleigh as an 8-year-old.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office is actively investigating the case, though no one has ever been charged in her disappearance.

Haleigh "is most likely deceased," Putnam County Sheriff Jeff Hardy said in 2010. Relatives and many others, though, think she might be alive.

Authorities have repeatedly said Haleigh's former stepmother, Misty Croslin, is the person who holds the answers to the disappearance.

Croslin is serving a 25-year sentence for drug trafficking. She's denied playing a role in or having knowledge of Haleigh's disappearance

Croslin said she fell asleep with the girl Feb. 9, 2009 and when she woke up at about 3 a.m. the next day, Haleigh was gone.

Detectives have long claimed Croslin is withholding information and has given inconsistent statements.

Haleigh Cummings' classmates remember the missing child

Jessica Clark, First Coast News
8 p.m. EST February 10, 2014

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- Monday marked five years since Haleigh Cummings disappeared from her Satsuma home in the middle of the night. Her father was at work, and his girlfriend was at his home with Haleigh.

Family and classmates of Haleigh's gathered at Browning Pearce Elementary in Putnam County to remember the then-5-year-old girl.

Alyssa Hall, 11, was a friend of Haleigh's. She said, "She was very nice. She helped me imagine things. She kind of made it into a big adventure."

A group of about six children were in the school courtyard Monday. They were kindergarten classmates with Haleigh Cummings when the 5-year-old disappeared.

Now they're in fifth grade. They still remember their little blond headed friend and the heartbreak when she vanished five years ago. They described that time in a way only children can.

Hall, through tears said, "It was really fun with her around, but when she left, the adventure stopped and it wasn't such an awesome adventure anymore."

Another fifth grader, David Dowling, said, "I feel bad because a couple days before she went missing, I spilled juice on her at snack time. I feel bad about that."

Aleah Ames remembers Haleigh and said, "I just think one day she'll be home and she'll remember us."

Haleigh's great-grandmother Annette Sykes still struggles with the emotions and mysteries of Haleigh's disappearance. She said there is "the hurt, the emptiness, the anger."

Sykes and Haleigh's grandmother unveiled a plaque next to a tree already planted in Haleigh's honor at Haleigh's school in Putnam County.

Ms. Mary Johnston was Haleigh's teacher and said, "It's sad. You have your moments and you cry."

Haleigh's great-grandmother has certainly cried. She believes Haleigh is still alive, but Sykes is now fighting lung cancer and she worries she might not see Haleigh again.

"Knowing that I may not be here when she comes home is painful," she said, wiping a tear from her cheek.

But she wanted a plaque at Haleigh's school – with the child's picture on it – so many children will know of her.

Little Allyssa Hall couldn't stop tearing up Monday afternoon. She hopes Haleigh will return, because she said Haleigh has a lot to return home to. "It was hard not to be with her. If she was here, she'd be happy and have family and her friends."

Investigators say they have no new leads in the case.

John “Jack” Jarvis said it gives him a good feeling to help keep his neighborhood looking nice by picking up trash while he’s out jogging several mornings a week.

On March 20, Jarvis got more than he bargained for, when he picked up a bag of skeletal remains about a block from his home in the DeLand Highlands neighborhood on DeLand’s north side.

Jarvis said a county road crew had been through recently, trimming back trees along the roadside and revealing some trash that had been hidden. Out for his exercise just before noon Thursday, Jarvis noticed a garbage bag in the vacant lot on the corner where Oak Street meets U.S. 92.

The bag appeared to be full of debris and was about 2 feet in diameter, Jarvis said.

“There were roots growing through the bag,” he said. “It looked like it had been there over a year.”

When Jarvis attempted to pull the bag from the undergrowth, the bag began to shred, he said, so he borrowed a neighbor’s trash toter, pulled it near the bag and tipped the toter over.

As he tried to slide the deteriorated garbage bag into the toter, Jarvis said, he caught sight of what appeared to be a skull inside the bag. A little more movement confirmed the grisly discovery.

“It just rolled right out, and I noticed it was a skull,” Jarvis said.

He immediately dialed 911 and looked no further into the contents of the bag.

The Sheriff’s Office responded, cordoning off the area and searching for several hours for additional evidence on the overgrown vacant lot. Deputies confirmed the items in the bag appeared to be human remains.

Jarvis could not confirm whether the bag contained a full human skeleton, but said the skull appeared to be that of a young person — not an infant, but not an adult. He said there was also deteriorated fabric in the bag that looked as if it might have been a yellow or tan bedsheet.

Rather than being horrified by the discovery, Jarvis said it gave him a sense of peace and closure to think that someone would finally learn what had happened to a loved one.

“Somebody’s missing somebody, and now it’s over with,” he said.

The Sheriff’s Office investigation of the discovery is ongoing. No further information was available about the skeletal remains, or whether they might be linked to a local unsolved criminal case.

Statement Analysis - Haleigh Cummings Step Grandfather Arrested

Sunday, April 20, 2014

Remember the case of Haleigh Cummings:  Statement Analysis showed deception on the part of Misty Croslin, who was watching Haliegh that night, and that the language suggested sexual abuse.

Here  is the report:

Bruce Griffis, 52, has been arrested for molesting a fourteen year-old girl. He has been charged with lewd and lascivious behavior, which is a first degree felony in Florida.

Griffis is the step-father of Crsytal Sheffield, mother, HaLeigh Cummings.

HaLeigh was reported missing on February 10, 2009.

Timothy Charles Holmseth conducted approximately 100 hours of in-depth interviews with Sheffield's victim's advocate, Wayanne Kruger.

During Holmseth's interviews, shortly after HaLeigh vanished, Kruger said Bruce Griffis' wife, Marie Griffis, said she believed HaLeigh had been severely sexually molested.

Kruger said she was frustrated that Marie Griffis did not want to report the sexual abuse to the police.

Marie Griffis also told mainstream media outlets she was receiving assisstance from a 'family friend' named Jeremiah Regan.

Jeremiah Regan is the son of John Regan. John Regan is a phony pastor and FBI impersonator that told Kruger he was working as an "undercover pedophile" for the FBI.
