A multiple shooting at a Lake Havasu City residence late Saturday
resulted in the death of five adults and left one adult female in
critical condition after she was air-evacuated to a Las Vegas hospital
in the wake of the incident.
“This is the worst shooting in the history of Lake Havasu City,”
said Lt. Richie Sloma, Lake Havasu City Police Department.
The shooter, 27-year-old Brian Diez, of Havasu, kidnapped two young
children, 13-month old Cole Diez and 4-year-old Kaia Diez, and fled from
the scene and has since been located in California after taking his own life.
Lake Havasu City Police Department issued a nationwide
Amber Alert at 2:52 a.m. Sunday in an attempt to locate the suspect, who
fled in his 2010 Chevy Siverado pick up truck, according to the
department’s Nixle.com electronic alert system.
The alert was canceled at 3:55 a.m. after police learned he reportedly
drove three hours to Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., where he dropped the
children off at a family member’s home before taking his own life, Sloma said.
Sloma said the incident began at about 11:50 p.m. Saturday
when Brian Diez entered a local residence in the 300 block of Opossum
Drive and shot six adults “at close range”.
“Four died at the scene and two were transported to Havasu Regional (Medical Center),
where one died at the hospital and the other, the last remaining victim,
a female, was air evacuated to Las Vegas in critical but stable
condition. She (the survivor) is actually the one who called 911 at
11:57 p.m. (Saturday),” Sloma said.
The group of six victims are believed to all be residents of Havasu, however, there is a possibility
that one of the victims may have been visiting from out of town, according to Sloma.
The identities of the victims are being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

A custody battle turned deadly late Saturday after a man entered a
Lake Havasu City home and shot six people, including the mother of his
children, before abducting his son and daughter. Lake Havasu
Police Sgt. Joe Harrold said Deborah Langstaff, 23, Primo Verdone, 24,
Russell Nyland, 42, and Ashleigh Nyland, 20, were pronounced dead at the
scene. Two victims, Broc Kelson, 20, and Deborah Nyland, 42, were
transported to the hospital, where Kelson died early Sunday. According
to Harrold, dispatchers received a 911 call just before midnight
reporting an intruder had entered the house and shot several people.
Police also discovered two young children had been abducted from the
home. Further investigation revealed 26-year-old Brian Diez as
the shooting suspect. Harrold said Diez had fathered a 4-year-old
daughter and 13-month-old son with Langstaff, but the couple had been
estranged. An amber alert was issued at 2:35 a.m. Sunday after Diez
abducted his two children and fled the scene. Harrold
said Diez ended up in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. early Sunday, where he
committed suicide at a family member's home. The amber alert was
canceled at 3:51 a.m. after the kids were located safely with relatives
inside the residence. According to police, Diez and Langstaff
were involved in a custody dispute at the time of the incident. Harrold
said Diez was arrested on August 13 for violating a restraining order
filed by Langstaff.

I did not think he would let these children live after what he had done. God does indeed answer prayers.
