Two young children — one in critical condition — have suffered child abuse, and Kansas City police have arrested their mother.They
acted after a 2-year-old girl was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital
Wednesday not breathing. She had a head cut and severe bruises over her
body, according to a police report.Hospital staff resuscitated the girl but she had no brain activity, police reported.The
3-year-old boy who came with her had bruising on his face, torso and
legs. He has been taken into state care, police reported.They are continuing to investigate.

A 2-year-old girl is in critical condition at
Children's Mercy Hospital and a parent is in custody after police said
the child showed obvious signs of abuse.The girl was brought to the hospital around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday.Police
did not say whether they had arrested the girl's mother or her
boyfriend. The girl's mother and her boyfriend brought the child to the
hospital and were questioned after hospital employees suspected abuse.As of 5 a.m. Thursday, the child was still in critical condition.

Police have taken a person into custody after a
two-year-old girl was taken to the emergency room Wednesday night with
life threatening injuries. Police said the girl was taken to the
hospital by her mother and her mother's boyfriend. Because of the girl's
injuries police were called and the child's mother and the mother's
boyfriend were questioned.

According to the police report the two-year-old girl was blue and not
breathing when she was brought to the emergency room. She had bruising
on her head, torso, buttocks and legs and had a laceration on the back
of her head. Hospital staff resuscitated the child but she had no brain
activity. Doctors said the child's brain had "shifted" in her skull.

At that time, another child, a four-year-old boy, who as brought in with
the mother and her boyfriend was taken into protective custody.
According to the police report, the boy was examined and found to have
bruises on his face, torso, buttocks and legs. The boy stated the
bruises were from running into walls and falling down.

Investigators said child abuse is suspected and charges could be filed.
The toddler is reportedly in grave condition and may not survive.
Prosecutors said if that happens, more serious charges will be filed.
