Police: Conn. girl found injured in woods

Police in Connecticut are looking for a man they say broke into a New Haven home and abducted a 13-year-old girl who was later found wounded and partially clothed in a wooded area.

Authorities say they didn't find anyone during an hours-long search Monday night.

New Haven police say the girl was kidnapped from her home during the day Monday, and the suspect may have sexually assaulted her. Her mother reported her missing at about 12 p.m.

FBI agents used a device that located the signal of the girl's cell phone, and authorities found her at about 3 p.m. Police say she was conscious but appeared to be in shock. She was treated at a local hospital.

The suspect was described as a black man in his 20s who was wearing a black hooded shirt and dark pants.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- A girl who told police she was abducted earlier in the week in New Haven has recanted her story, police said.The 13-year-old girl told police that she was abducted by a man in his late 20s on Monday.Police said they received a call around noon from a mother who said she found signs of forced entry at her home and could not locate her daughter.Police said, using cell phone technology, the girl was found three hours later in a wooded patch behind the home on Chamberlain Street.New Haven police said Thursday that the girl made up the story about being abducted and that she had been having problems with her mother. Police called the girl's fabricated story "a cry for help.""We are able to ensure the community that there is no abduction or assault suspect on the loose as a result of this incident," said Lt. Julie Johnson.Police would not say if there would be any charges filed against the girl, nor would they guess at the cost of the enormous response.Winsome Hayden runs a home day care a block from where the girl was found and said he is breathing easier now."I'm a little bit relieved," he said. "I'm still going to lock my doors. This is an eye-opener. Sometimes we just have to be cautious."
