KNOXVILLE - Authorities this afternoon issued an Amber Alert for a 13-year-old Knoxville girl last seen Monday with a 47-year-old man.Caitlyn Shannon has blue eyes and blonde hair. She is 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds.She was last seen with Michael Crockett as Crockett removed her from an undisclosed school, advising the school staff that he was her stepfather and that they were moving to Florida, according to the alert. Earlier authorities issued an “endangered child alert” about Caitlyn.Crockett has brown hair and hazel eyes. He is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs 145 pounds.Crockett is a convicted felon with a lengthy criminal history, according to the alert. He is wanted on a Michigan parole violation. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has upgraded an Endangered Child Alert to an Amber Alert for a missing Knox County teen. The state agency says Caitlyn Shannon, 13 was last seen September 20th when Michael Crockett pulled her out of class. He had told school staff he was her step-father and they were moving to Florida. Knox County School officials have confirmed that Crockett was on an approved list of people allowed to pick Shannon up from Holston Middle School.
Crockett is a felon with a lengthy criminal history. He is currently wanted on a parole violation in Michigan. He is described as 5'7" and 145 lbs. Shannon is a white with blue eyes and blonde hair. She is 5'2" and weighs 160 lbs. TBI officials said they made the decision to upgrade the alert after receiving new information from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. They were not specific, but told Volunteer TV News that one piece of new information was that they may already be outside the state. They were initially believed to be traveling to Florida, though a “Be on the Lookout For” bulletin broadcast to law enforcement agencies across the state indicated they may instead be headed to Mexico. They may be traveling in a black 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse with Tennessee license plate 550-WWR. We have an update for you on a 13-year-old Knoxville girl that's been missing since Monday.Just after 12 a.m. Sunday the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation cancelled its alert, reporting that Caitlyn Shannon was found safe and the suspect is in custody.46-year-old Michael Crockett took Shannon out of school. He was her mother's ex-boyfriend.

This is great news, certainly not how I expected it to end but oh so happy that it did.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A statewide amber alert has been canceled for a missing 13-year Knox County teenager. Caitylnn Shannon was returned home safely and her alleged kidnapper Michael Crockett is in custody.

On September 20th, police say convicted felon Michael Crockett posed as Caitlyn's stepfather and checked her out of school.

Police believe the two were headed to Mexico. It's still unknown how or where police found them.

I'm confused. Crockett was Caitlyns mother's ex boyfriend who, according to one of the articles, the school say Crockett was on their list as someone approved to pick up Caitlyn. So why would he have to pose as her step-father?

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A teenager who was signed out of an East Tennessee school by a felon has been found safe at a motel in southern Mississippi.

Thirteen-year-old Caitlyn Shannon had been the subject of an Amber alert after being taken from school on Sept. 20 in Knox County.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Kristin Helm said the child is in state custody after being found Saturday in McComb, Miss.

Authorities arrested 47-year-old Michael Crockett, who told school officials he was the girl's stepfather and they were moving to Florida.

The TBI says Crockett is a convicted felon with an outstanding parole violation warrant from Michigan.

An Amber Alert, issued in September, leads to rape charges against the 13 year-old victim's mother. A Knox Co. Grand Jury indicted 38 year-old Sandal Shannon on charges of Statutory Rape by an Authority Figure and Aggravated Child Neglect Monday.
Shannon was arrested at her home on Harris Road that morning. She is being held in the Knox Co. Jail on $50,000 bond.

Forty-seven year-old Michael Crockett was also indicted for Statutory Rape by an Authority Figure. He is accused of taking the teen from a Knox Co. school n September. Crockett is currently being held in a Michigan jail on a parole violation. Officials say he will be extradited to Knox. Co. to face the rape charge. According to authorities, the 13 year-old was found with Crockett safe in a motel room in McComb, Mississippi on September 25. Crockett had reportedly told school officials he was the girl's stepfather and they were moving to Florida.
