NEDERLAND, Colo. -- A Nederland woman is suspected of child abuse after her unclothed 2-year-old daughter was found in an unlocked pickup truck with a camper top parked in the middle of a U.S. Forest Road in Boulder County over the weekend.Forest Service employees on routine fire patrol said they found a Nissan Frontier pickup at about 8 p.m. Saturday on Forest Service Road 355, southwest of Nederland and that it appeared to have been abandoned. The driver's door was open and the truck tailgate was down.They said a young girl was sleeping in the back seat, covered with a blanket. Her mother's purse was on the front passenger seat floor, along with an empty 750 ml bottle of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, according to the arrest report. Keys to the pickup were found on the front passenger seat.Forest Service workers then contacted the Boulder County Sheriff's Office to help look for the driver of the pickup.When the child woke up, she said that her mother had been driving the pickup truck but she didn't know where her "mommy" was. The girl also told a deputy that she was hungry and thirsty, according to the sheriff's report.The child's mother was later found along with a Bernese mountain dog at Forest Service Roads 355 and 355C, about three-tenths of a mile north of the pickup, with no flashlight. She was identified as Katrina Diane Camp, 30, in the arrest report.Camp told deputies she and her daughter were "camping" where the car was parked. She said her daughter had needed to take a nap and she couldn't go to sleep while her mother was there so Camp "went for a hike" at about 6:45 p.m.. She said she could hear her daughter from where she was and didn't feel the girl was in danger.The woman also said she had been drinking the bottle of rum, which had been three-quarters full when she started drinking, the report stated. She refused to take a breath test, the report stated.When asked the defendant if she wanted to make a statement or answer questions, she told deputies, "It's OK, I suck."The young girl was examined by Nederland Fire personnel and Pridemark Paramedics and taken into the custody of Boulder County Housing and Human Services.Camp was arrested and booked into the Boulder County Jail at 1:15 a.m. Sunday on suspicion of child abuse.While on the ride to the jail, Camp told a deputy that she ran the nursery at the Rally Sports Fitness Club in Boulder, and that she would never put any child in danger, much less her daughter, the arrest report stated. Camp's job title was listed as "kids manager" on her arrest report.The deputy said she repeatedly said, "You're a parent, you know how it is, sometimes you just need a break."Rally Sports Fitness Club confirmed Friday that Camp is employed there.Camp bonded out on Sunday evening and is due in court on Oct. 18.A check of Colorado criminal records show Camp was arrested in 2007 under her maiden name on suspicion of driving under the influence.
